Ambitious,
Yes, you can put in a DA4187 requesting a duty station. I recommend requesting "Germany." It's Awesome.
But at any rate, you will have orders sending you *somewhere* before you finish AIT. Which also leads into my other recommendation:
Using a DA31, request leave after AIT. You'll need to put the request in at least a few weeks out, before you get orders.

You will get orders for a permanent change of duty station to.............someplace where someone else has asked for a person with your training. You will probably get a little time between AIT and your new home. That would be CONUS.
If you go to Germany I think I've seen here that the 21st Replacement BN still exists. You will stay in the 21st until they find a home for you in Germany. they might handle Italy.
I will guess that Korea would work the same.
Pay attention to the dates I was in, I could be way off.

I did my Basic and AIT at Fort Leonard Wood (nobody calls it Fort Wood for some reason) 1. Don't worry about swimming requirement. They will train you to do what you need to do. 2. After you graduate AIT, you will travel to your first duty station. You won't know what it is until a few days before you graduate. 3. After you complete your first enlistment, you can re-enlist with an option to re-classify MOSs. If you join the Guard or Reserve, you will probably have to re-classify anyways unless there happens to be a very specific unit near your home in your case. Best of luck, and thanks for serving!

You will find out during AIT where your duty station will be. You will graduate AIT then transfer on to wherever you will be stationed.
My husband is reclassing and he is done with school in 2 months (been here 4 months) and we still don't know where we are going so it can be a while before you know. You will definately know before you leave though because you'll get orders. Be patient and have fun!

After AIT you will go to your first duty station and get settled into your housing. Depending on your deployment schedule you may deploy or volunteer to deploy with another unit. If you can't swim they will work with you to get you through the training til you pass. Worst case they will hold you back til you can complete that task. You can switch your MOS as long as they are in demand for that job your applying for. I've found that it isn't the most easy thing to do and y ou will have to go through AIT again.

Before you Graduate AIT orders will be sent down from the Department of the Army to your unit specifying exactly where you will be headed next. Upon your graduation you will either be issued a plane or bus ticket to get to your new station, or you will be afforded the opportunity to take leave, go home and drive to your gaining unit.

You go to a unit. If your smart and "in the know" you will ask your Drill Sergeant for a "DA-4187" form before you are done with AIT (at least 4 weeks before!) and put down the 3 duty stations you would like to go to first. You may just get lucky and get the one you want!

you usually get a chance to do HRAP, hometown recruiting, after you graduate from AIT, as for duty station if you are reserves, just go to your drill hall when you get back home, and if you are active you will usually be told about 2 weeks prior to graduation. Depending on your unit you will know if you are getting deployed or not. I was lucky enough not to get deployed with my unit and get assigned to my units rear detachment. Each unit is very different.

well if you dont have airborne school afterwards, you will go on to your first duty station, you will get told where you are going towards the end of AIT. You can either go straight to your unit or you can take leave and go home. Hope this helped
