The 82nd Airborne is currently deployed so if he goes into the army in the fall he will most likely be safe from deployment for approximately 1 year the way things are going. If another war starts the 82nd is a rapidly deploying unit so they are one of the first ones on the ground. It is a good place to go. Most units had an 18 hour recall unless you are on cycle which means you cant go out of town at all. Right now the policy is 15 months for deployment but like I said, if he goes in during the fall he should be safe.

The deployments have to be 12 months apart & are usually 12-15 months apart. They deploy for 15 months now. It is usual in infantry. He will be told in Basic training when to expect to deploy. After that they have a general time, within a month or two, almost as soon as they get back.
My son has known for 7 months that he would deploy at end of summer. It was delayed to then because 3 of his men had not been home the required 12 months.
Only Rangers & Green Beret leave without much notice.
Now, that pesky need to know basis stnks. They do not like to tell dates to the general population of Army.
The 82nd is a great & wel respect group. I had 2 uncles & a cousin that served for them. One uncle was a Green beret

The 82nd Airborne Division is a rapidly deploying unit. That means it has to always be ready to deploy. However, since the army's mission is predictable right now, he should have a decent amount of notice. He'll likely deploy every couple of years.
The nice thing about being in a division like that is, when they find out they're deploying, they usually give the soldiers a good amount of time off beforehand.

Everyone has to technically be ready to deploy in hours, but they usually give you a couple months (sometimes up to 6 months) notice. The frequency of deployments is never anything set in stone, in fact nothing is with the military. However, no matter what always support him. That is the most important thing you can do. My kids and I wear camo and lots of army pride stuff. Just remember to always be there. Try to stay involved in unit activities once you get stationed somewhere. Make a lot of friends and enjoy the army life!

Deployments all over the world are common and there is a war going on, so even more common. Warning is from 90 days to 6 months usually, depends on the need for specific MTOE units and what not. My wife was an Army wife for 18 years, its not easy and all marriages don't last in that environment. But if your truly in love, you'll be fine.
PS. and the guy above me is absolutely correct! They havent deployed in hours often, but they have. Most deployments not associated with combat are routine.

if PR is Puerto Rico than the army cant assure that the two. military deployments are going on to 9 months now and after a deployment you cant installation for yet another 24 months, it fairly is beginning jan 2010. issues are actually not as undesirable as they was over there, i'm doing my 2d deployment and im infantry. all and sundry is a sprint scared yet you would be experienced to handle each thing. IEDs suck, yet now (the place im at in any case) you in basic terms roll out in mraps and asvs.

My sisters husband it getting ready for his third deployment to Iraq in 6 years a year there and a year home but it can last as long as 14 months I believe. As for notice they knew they would be going again about 2 months ago and they leave right before thanksgiving but hes deployed about once a month for a training exersizeof some kind and had to come back to the states for six weeks not to long ago (they're in Germany). Congrats on the marriage it will be hard but since you love him you have to support him! God Bless! and thank him for serving for us

shortest notice I ever had was 9 hours.
Army deployments are currently 15-18 months long. how often he deploys can vary. My cousin has done 3 in under 4 years.

It depends. Deployments are not only overseas.....there are out in "the field" deployments too. My husband's unit went overseas 2 times....once for a year then home for 9 months then back for a year! Just be supportive..military life can be fun.
The "required" 12 months the person above me spoke of is required but waiverable....happens ALL the time.

Sorry to tell you, but they could be issued orders to move on a minute's notice.
The 82nd is an elite unit and could go anywhere, anytime, with little or no advance notice.
