As a former Marine, I can tell you, I'll never be hijacked. Shouldn't the government deputize active/former service members on flights?
Also, do you think the Dep of Homeland Security is the next, big, government money pit ?

As a former Airman I agree I will never be Hijacked or live to tell about it. I think that most serving and former Service Members feel the same way. Deputizing would be in theory a good idea but would single out the person and make them a clearer target and destroy any surprise advantage this person might have if they go into action.

While I am a combat veteran with PTSD, I am not a wacko and resent the comment.
Yes, I think it would be a good idea, especially seeing as we are not talking about arming anyone, just giving them some law enforcement power.
Really could be any trained service man or women. The Army has a bunch of great men that are Rangers, Green Beray. The Navy has the Seals, and even the Air Force has their Special Downed Aircraft Operations(I am probably off on the name) personnel.
Homeland Security may become a big money pit, if we dish out large sums of money for local governments.

The military now complain that they're trained to be warriors, not policemen. Wouldn't this be the same thing?

DHS, probably yes, given the no-bid, no-oversight way the administration has gone about getting people and materials. Government is the problem so let's get the least competent people possible, preferably our friends or their kids, to be in charge of offices and programs.

Absolutely not! This is a job for specially trained police. The military should not be allowed to interfere in civilian affairs on any level and given the Marines record in Iraq, I don't think they have demonstrated that they are well trained for complex situations regarding civilian safety.

Not a good idea at all. Some of these guys are wacked psychologically, by what they encountered in war. All you need is a few loose cannons aboard a plane contributing to the problem.

Reading your question, I honestly believe you have some valid points to what you say.

Have you thought of bringing this idea to your State Governor or Senator?

Unless you were trained for this mission - it would be a very bad idea.

Air Marshals are very carefully trained to do this - Marines are not.

No.

We've got enough people dealing with the nuts already.

But yes, to the money pit; only it's not the next one: it's the current one.
