Why don't you ask the miriads of young and not so young people still signing up. Why don't you ask the people over there. A few are in my family. Many soldiers are even going back after they've already completed their time. They could take their GI bill and run! But they believe in the cause and they want to continue to be a part of it because they see the good they're doing first hand. Let us not forget also, there is no draft. These men and woman make the sacrifice by choice and I am a little sick of hearing of it being disrespected. Sure the media promotes the few that do come back feeling negatively, and they have the right to voice their opinion. But what about the vast majority who don't feel that way. We're not interested in hearing from them. Yes some of them die and it is not something to be taken lightly. But do you think these soldiers who enlist and then reenlist are stupid? Do you think they are unaware of the great risk they are taking. I'm really tired of the implication that these guys, who are putting others before themselves, are somehow just a bunch of bumbling morons who are too dumb to know what they are getting themselves into.

based on current results... absolutely not. We won't know the true cost/benefits until it's all worked out several years from now but right now it doesn't look like a good situation to have gotten into. If the Iraqi govt can turn it around however in the next 10 or so years it may not have been quite as awful as it looks to be right now.
economically wise this war is killing the United States.
Terrorism wise... Iraq was never a supporter of terrorism and is more likely to become one now than it was before Due to the seemingly uncontrollable violence in the region.
Iraq as a country could eventually benefit from this as it could eventually create a more peaceful and just society in the future. However right now it has thrown the country into disarray and the violence is likely to continue and if we end up pulling out too quickly it could potentially get much worse.
Middle east wise... it's helped to ship more power to Iran and hasn't done what we had hoped it would which is stabilize the region and secure our oil interests for years to come.
Internationally... Most countries dislike us (not that they didn't before), China basically owns us after how much $$$ they've let us borrow.
all in all most everything has gone poorly the war was a terrible idea and has been executed extremely poorly.
oh I almost forgot the bad intelligence... well it really wasn't bad intelligence when we invaded Iraq we knew that they had no WMD's capable of hurting the US. Most WMD's that they could have had would have been used on Iran. Saddam wouldn't let weapons inspectors check because if Iran knew about the lack of weapons they very well might have attempted to destroy them. We basically used the WMD excuse as propoganda to support the war. The former head of the CIA I believe actually wrote a book on the intelligence that was given and how the president used it.

In the end it probably will be although the results won't be known for 10, 20 or 50 years. The Jews wandered the desert for 40 years in a fairly tight spot (a person can walk around the world, if it was completely dry, in about a year) before they got their act together and the original leaders died off. Also look that there are more Native Americans now even after all the diseases and fighting brought by the Europeans. It took about 30 years for Europe, China and Japan to recover from WWII.

No, to your first question.
Yes, to your second question, in the hunt for Bin Laden. However, we have become sidetracked in Bush's fantasy of beating up Saddam.
