Bush told the country repeatedly that invading Iraq would open the borders to Al Qaeda and Iranian radicals and unleash a vicious centuries-old bloodbath between competing Muslim factions.

Why did you do it, President Kerry? Why?!!

My friend signed up to join the Army as an active-duty soldier. I did some research to understand potential consequences of this decision. I found that 3% of American troops died and 20% were wounded in Iraq. I also found many soldiers coming back from the war suffer mental problems -17% of them have PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder), or invisible injuries -roughly 10% of them have TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury). Now he is not so sure that this war is legitimate for him to take such a big risk.

However, he still insists in joining, because he already quitted his job and told everyone he was going to join the Army. If he doesn't go, how can he face his friends/ex-bosses/relatives? That will make him look like a coward or a liar.

My question is how can I find him a good reason not to join, a reason that can make him not feel ashamed? If I can find a good reason for him, I can convince him not to go to the boot camp and then his contract won't be finalized. Please help!

With its long history of killing its allies and indeed its own forces, with ‘friendly fire’ I had always assumed that the American military was just massively incompetent. Now it appears that it may be actually criminal.

A coroner conducting an inquest into a U.S. friendly fire attack that killed a British soldier during the Iraq war said on Friday that it was unlawful and criminal.

“The attack on the convoy amounted to an assault," Walker said. "It was unlawful because there was no lawful reason for it, and in that respect it was criminal”.

Walker has called the lack of U.S. cooperation in the inquest "appalling."

Is it fair to label these brave ‘Top Guns’ as criminals just because they couldn’t tell the difference between their allies and the enemy, even though the trucks were painted day-glo orange, and there were no enemy troops in the area?

So I don't embarrass myself in front of the recruiter (who makes recruitment decisions) I have a grand parent in the Phillipines. If I am ever stationed there (after years of service maybe) can they visit me? Could I visit them? They usually come here, but if I am somehow over there meeting them in the US doesn't make sense. Any answers appreciated. Thank you!

I've never got the hang of this...

So a clip is a device for storing rounds ready to be inserted into a gun.
A magazine is the part the clip is put into.

So the way I understood it was that, say for a 9mm pistol, the clip was the detatchable part with the bullets in, and the magazine the 'handle' into which the clip was put.

But Wikipedia implies the detachable part is the magazine, so then what is a clip?!?

I'm from the UK so don't see many guns. Someone explain the difference (with examples) to me please in easy to understand words.

QUOTE :
"In delivering his verdict, Mr Walker said: "The attack on the convoy amounted to an assault.
"It was unlawful because there was no lawful reason for it and in that respect it was criminal."
Four other soldiers were injured in the attack near Basra
No American witnesses gave evidence at the inquest and the coroner was critical of the failure of the US authorities to co-operate.
"I believe that the full facts have not yet come to light," said the Oxford assistant deputy coroner.
The US pilots should have flown lower to confirm identities before opening fire, he added.
"I don't think this was a case of honest mistake."

MY QUESTION based on MANY facts of war relates to this CULTURE OF CONCEALMENT.

In the case above, this was NOT a witch-hunt. It was not a criminal court. The US and MoD were asked to co-operate.

Why don't they? When things go wrong - WHICH IT WILL DO IN THE THEATRE (FACT !) why conceal vital info?

My husband is in the military and we live in Germany right now.Recently I volunteered to coach youth sports and had to pass an extensive background check.I passed and went on to coach the kids. Now I want to get paid to keep a few kids during the day,at my house, but need to have another bkgd ck done. But just today I found out that on my old one, there was a disgretion! The lady said sometimes that could happen if I had past problems with my bills...the only other thing I can think of is I got in trouble once for underage drinking and I was in the military and had to go through a rehab program. But I was young and stupid. Now I am 27,haven't been in trouble since then, and don't have any kind of alch. probs!Should I be worried that I won't pass the check this time? This one is more extensive,of course, since I would have kids in my home, alone.I am really disappointed because I got all excited about making money and playing with kids all day and getting trained in child development

At least Im there to protect their lives by trying to get them out of a war that has nothing to do with us. The conservatives wont be happy till we've killed off a few more of our soldiers in a needless war.

But dont worry they will be buried with full military honours. So that makes everything alright then .......... (I was using sarcasm there in case it didnt come across!)
