So I don't embarrass myself in front of the recruiter (who makes recruitment decisions) I have a grand parent in the Phillipines. If I am ever stationed there (after years of service maybe) can they visit me? Could I visit them? They usually come here, but if I am somehow over there meeting them in the US doesn't make sense. Any answers appreciated. Thank you!

*cough* There aren't any marine bases in the Philippines. If by chance you're in the Philippines, it will probably be because the ship you're stationed on is docked there. In which case, you can get liberty and go and visit them.

Your just in the Military My Dear, Not prison. You will get Liberty, even over there. And Yes, they can visit you on Base. as long as they have proper ID and you've made Prior arrangements for them to do so.

You wouldn't be stuck on the installation all of the time.

Civilians can go onto most installations if they have proper ID.
