And the most intelligent: .......FORT HOOD, Texas - A soldier who admitted fleeing from the Army rather than deploying to Iraq for a second time was sentenced Thursday to seven months in a military prison and given a bad conduct discharge.

Spc. Mark Wilkerson, who pleaded guilty to desertion and missing troop movement earlier Thursday as part of a plea deal, could have been incarcerated for up to 10 months.

Wilkerson, 23, surrendered at Fort Hood in August — about a year and a half after failing to return from an approved two-week leave — saying he was tired of running and wanted to move forward with his life.

"I quit the Army, I quit my unit, and I did not show up when I needed to," Wilkerson told the judge during his sentencing hearing.

Prosecutor Capt. Derek Leo had asked the judge to send Wilkerson to prison and then release him with a dishonorable discharge.

"He simply abandoned his Army family but it was the correct thing to do. The war is wrong.

I was wondering if there are any organizations out there that would help a mother and grandmother go to their son/grandson's graduation from basic training? The mother is not working right now and the grandmother is retired. We would really like to be there but do not have the finances to allow us to go to basic training graduation. If you can give us some ideas we would appreciate it.

U.S. troops battled insurgents in fierce fighting that killed at least 12 brave people in the volatile Sunni city of Ramadi, the military said Thursday. Iraqi authorities said the dead included women and children.

The six-hour firefight began after the U.S. troops were attacked by insurgents with small-arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades Wednesday evening in eastern Ramadi, said Marine spokesman 1st Lt. Shawn Mercer.

The fighting ended after ``precision guided munitions'' damaged a number of buildings being used by the insurgents, he said. Twelve insurgents were killed and three were wounded, he said, adding that there were a number of civilian casualties. However, the United States says that is ok as long as it is for freedom.

If so how did you find them? Did they take alot of equipment off of you since our government it to tight to give us proper funding!

Would you work with them again? Did you come across a differnt army group like the Australians and find them better?

Any quirks they have?

Thanks

I'm a Brit by the way!

I used to have a link to a site that said the number of troops that have died in Iraq is just that...troops that have died in Iraq. It said that the troops who were wounded in Iraq and died in other places (like Germany) are not counted. When the reported death toll hit 2,000 the actual death toll was more like 9,000.

Does anyone have any information on this?

Let’s say that we get hit by a devastating natural or disaster or a massive terrorist attack. Let’s say that ALL power to the whole country has been disabled, and pandemonium has kicked in, the government has imposed marshal law and it's everyone for them selves. Lets say this will happen just 10 minutes from the time you read this, would you be prepared to SURVIVE (means live)??

Have you thought of a "bug out plan"?

Do you have the skills, mental fortitude, and necessary equipment to survive?

Somebody new what regiments were likely to be sent to Iraq.So somebody new by putting Harry into one of these regiments he would be sent to Iraq.
With the possibility of Harry being fathered by James Hewitt.(I'm not starting that rumour)but still Diana's son and royalty,if he was killed would that give the Government the public support to invade Iran,if they proved it was an Iranian insurgent/weapons responsible.
It has been in the news all day where he will be serving, what regiment and what he will be driving.Ok there are lots of armoured personel carriers but they will deffinately become a more choice target for attack

After reading through these posts, it seems as though some (not all) of non-Americans blame the USA for "taking over their culture" and thus making their fellow countrymen obese, stupid, or "chavs".

Can the ones of you that feel this way not realize that you are doing this to yourselves?? Is there an American on every street corner shoving McDonalds down your throat or forcing you to listen to 50 cent and wear hoodies?

And as far as GWB goes, most Americans can't wait for his term in office to be OVER. He has an extremely low approval rating. Yes, he was voted in in 2004, but none of us Americans can predict the future in that this war in Iraq would turn into such a mess. If any of you have any suggestions as to how we can look into the future and see how a politician is going to run our country, by all means, let us know and you won't have to complain about us ever again!

Instead of sending so many troops and spending so much money on Iraq why didn't we send Arther Fonzarelli to the Middle East? The Fonz wins at everything and has often bested experts in their own fields. I think we would already have caught Bin Laden a long time ago if Fonzie was in Afghanistan... and Iraq would have shut down by now. And i bet the Iraqi women would be swarming at his feet when he snaps his fingers which would make the Iraqi men think Americans are super cool!

I just think it was a HUGE oversight that Rumsfield (and Gates now) and Bush and Cheney made on this one.

George Bush keeps sending troops to iraq and i dont see any solution to this war, if Bush was one of the mothers of the soldiers in Iraq he would know what it is like to go to bed knowing if your son or daughter is alive or not, but its not like that, that son of a gun dosen't know what he is doing and causing and it hurts me to know that there are such selfish people in this world.
