I went through this a few years back. I was trying to get my DD-214 replaced that was stolen along with my brief case. I found out that after your inactive reserve duty is up they take your 214 out of military hands and they are stored with a civilian company contracted out by the military. You might check with your local VA and see if they can get you pointed in the right direction.

Go to www.va.gov

You can now request a copy of a service record online from the VA online. Once they get your info they should mail it to you.
