I have noticed that in a war when the U.S people are patriotic the war is more successfull but if the people are not supporting the war or are angry about it the war is not very successfull. For example in WW2 when the U.S and Japan faced of the U.S was actually weaker in the beginning and then they eventually gained the upper hand because of the patriotism of the people. But the Japanese people were dissapointed of the war and did not support their goverment. In the Vietnam war the U.S was not ver patriotic as people and the war was somewhat of a failure. The Gulf War was not that controversial because people wanted to protect Kuwait and it was a success. And do not get me started on the Iraq War.In the beginning people supported it and the U.S crushed Saddam's forces. Now is some sort of mess where people run around throwing bombs.Does the patriotism of the people effect the outcome of a battle that much?

I'm currently a student at the USMA, and will be commissioned an Armor officer upon graduation. I have met so many civilians that are extremely ignorant about what the US army is and what it does. I even had one person tell me that the majority of troops in Iraq were Marines, followed by the National Guard, and that the Army was useless! And I had someone else tell me that Marines did all of the fighting and the Army only existed as a reserve force for the Marines. Why dont people get their facts straight, that 120,000 US Army soldiers are serving in Iraq, thats 85% of the personnel in Iraq? And besides that, they are serving in Al-Fallujah, and Baghdad, in the Sunni Triangle, the most dangerous part of Iraq! This is seriously ridiculous, (I'm not bashing Marines, I have immense respect for the Corps) but Marines fight battles, the Army fights wars. We have all of the heavy equipment and supplies and take the brunt of combat.

Why do all military uniforms look similar in design with same types of accoutraments, medals, and cords? Did all countries come to the same conclusion or did they copy someone's? If so, whose? And why do they have the same ranks?

He said, "If there’s anyone who believes these youngsters want to fight, as the Pentagon and some generals have said, you can just forget about it. No bright young individual wants to fight just because of a bonus and just because of educational benefits. And most all of them come from communities of very, very high unemployment."

Hey, I am interested in joining the United States Naval Academy. From what I have understood by reading the ifno on their site (www.usna.edu), you have to have a nomination from your local Congress Man/Woman. Is this an automatic admission? I am homeschooled, so I know it will be hard to present a record of my grades, but if I score high on my SAT, will that overcome the record problem? Has anyone here been to the USNA? Any advice on how to get an admission would be appreciated. Thanks.
