The only reason that it is a little harder to get in is due to it's size. It is the smallest branch and is actually Department of Homeland Security and not Department of defense. My brother is in the Coast Guard and loves it. My husband looked into the Coast Guard and would have gotten in but decided to enlisti in the Air Force instead.

The Coast Guard has stricter medical requirements for entry. While I met and passed all the requirements for commission in the Navy, I was not qualified for the Coast Guard.

Well, with teh war in Iraq, more funding is going to the services that are directly combat related, eg. Army/Marines. Therefore, the size of the Coast Guard has to be reduced, which is probably why its harder to get in. However, you still shouldnt have trouble.

Doubtful.
I understand that you need to be at least six foot, though, in case you need to wade into shore.
(Just a joke from an ex-Navy chick. We call the coasties "Mud Ducks")
Anyway, I would say it shouldn't be any harder than any other branch.
