I have noticed that in a war when the U.S people are patriotic the war is more successfull but if the people are not supporting the war or are angry about it the war is not very successfull. For example in WW2 when the U.S and Japan faced of the U.S was actually weaker in the beginning and then they eventually gained the upper hand because of the patriotism of the people. But the Japanese people were dissapointed of the war and did not support their goverment. In the Vietnam war the U.S was not ver patriotic as people and the war was somewhat of a failure. The Gulf War was not that controversial because people wanted to protect Kuwait and it was a success. And do not get me started on the Iraq War.In the beginning people supported it and the U.S crushed Saddam's forces. Now is some sort of mess where people run around throwing bombs.Does the patriotism of the people effect the outcome of a battle that much?

LOL sorry I did not want to drain another 5 points but do you think that the patriptism of the Iranian people would make it harder for the U.S to penetrate then Iraq?I mean in Iraq half the people like the U.S half do not.In Iran everyone dislikes the U.S.

Yes, patriotism effects the outcome of the battle. It shows that the soldiers sufferings are worth the fight.
Think of this as a race. You are running a 200-meter race. People start sheering you on,and you feel encouraged and hold your pain, then run faster. So,the patriotism is kind of encouraging the soldiers to win the battle.
Another way to look at it is a fight. You are having a conflict on who's shoes look better. They are about to turn around from their argument and then this person says, "Ooh, he just dissed on your shoes, what are you going to do about it?" So that person in the conflict just got encouraged to do more damage. It makes the conflict more important for the people inside it (the conflict) and work even harder (giving the other person a black eye, etc.).
For the additional question, yes, I do believe that Iran's patriotism will be harder for the U.S. to penetrate. As I said again, patriotism makes the war seem much more important for the soldiers, so they will work harder, since it is a much bigger deal.

i think our troops are trained to be deaf to the media and appearance of patriotism.
it might have a small effect while overseas, but when they come home is when it hits the hardest.
our own elected officials (the people we chose to make our decisions) supported this war. turning tail and opposing it before it's done is awful, and borderline treasonous, as we all decided to put our boys in danger for a good reason, then decided "oh wait, nah, we screwed up, just leave that mess and come home without finishing the job"
embarrassing.

I think it does. I can't imagine being a soldier and knowing that the people back home did not support me in my efforts. I don't like the war we are in right now because I am not sure why we went there in the first place. I could guess, but...regardless of whether the war is right or wrong, I do support the men and women overseas and know that they are doing the best that they can for us.

Ya its true. But your facts about WW2 are wrong. We didnt do so well in the beging because we wherent set up for massive war production and our fleet was decimated in pearl harbor. And as the marines fought the Japanese they where fighting on Japanese territory where japanese where dug in pretty heavily.

Yes, it does affect it. Look at Viet Nam. A good example. This is the USA and we need to back our President, whether we agree or disagree with his methods. He is still doing what he believes is best for our nation and he needs our support as much as the troops need our support
What a beautifully phased question you posed. You are very right.

It is the individual who chooses what is worth fighting and/or dieing for.
Our troops do not fight for the people, they fight for the rights of all people. If the people who are being defended do not understand they can loose these rights it is of no worry to the military. For this we will defend!

Love of country is a great motivation for soldiers to fight in war. Thus, the United State has won most of the wars it fought.

It hurts more than anyone could possibly understand...short of actually experiencing it for yourself. Knowing that you could be blown away at any second, and at the same time knowing that everyone at home hates you for it, its extremely detrimental to unit morale.

YES!!! Farenheit 911 brought down many a morale while in 04 while I was in Fallujah. (1 at the box office) when you hear that your friends think you are a murderer or don't even need to be there it makes you mad and then it makes you want to quit. that is just the way it is.

As a primitive comparison, imagine football without the cheerleaders, the pep squad and the band.
Our troops need our support, regardless of how we feel about politics.
EDIT: The word is actually morale (not moral), and I think you are demonstrating wisdom for your age, but you shouldn't let people get to you. Who knows what is going on in his life...
