Reinstating the military draft will not bring sooner end to the war. It would be better for the soldiers who are fighting right now because having more soldiers means not having to do more Iraq tour of duty. The draft is good but the a better systems is to require all men and women to serve in the military for at least two years, and then be in the reserves for another 4 years. I believe the system will not only benefit the military, and would benefit the young men and women more due to the dicipline and responsibility they acquire.

Bad idea. It is best to have motivated soldiers which comes from NOT having a draft.
Some people justify doing that by saying only those who are in the military who cannot get jobs elsewhere. Actually not true. Military right now has a slightly higher average education level than the general population.
Other reason is just to get the war to stop. The assumption is that once we leave the war will be over. That is not necessarily true. That would not necessarily make the USA (or the world safer) and in the end could cause more bloodshed. i.e. many MILLIONS of people were killed AFTER we left Vietnam.

There are 3 things that a United States citizen should feel obligated to do: Vote. Perform jury duty when called upon. And take part in serving the national interests of the country through service in the armed forces.
But I'm not sure I want the uninformed to vote. Jury duty is the only thing that a citizen must by law participate in. As for the military, I certainly wouldn't wish to be supervising, working with, or fighting with a person who has no dedication to his or her country. Better for them to stay home, especially if they pity or hate the military and our commander in chief. We'd both sleep better at night, keep it voluntary.

If the draft is reinstated, it would be over the objections of the military, because it would diminish the professionalism and quality of the personnel. A bad idea, when the cost per soldier has been increasing exorbitantly because it's been moving towards high tech. No room for malcontents, slackers, and dummies.

Actually it might do a lot of good. We have made a huge mistake and now we have to repair it. An application of a huge and gigantic force equal almost to the population in the country we are trying to get under control would certainly calm things down in a hurry. The whole forkin' place needs to be disarmed and they need to know we have the power to make them toe the line, and keep coming back until they do. Might makes right in politics and war and we haven't shown the right amount "might" so far.

In the UK we scrapped it, We called the draft National Service, It produced fine young men from undisciplined, rowdy, law breaking teenagers. The youth of today would benefit enormously from a stint in the forces. By your question I assume you have a similar situation. Our Army is under-recruited and almost everybody thinks National Service should be brought back , The Government however seem afraid to do it. It would reduce unemployment and give some young lads one of the many trades for when they leave, some of course would stay.

The all volunteer Military is the best situation in our current conflict. This is one of the reasons the U.S. Military is so highly regarded around the globe.
I think it would be satisfying to see the rich fight.
Perhaps a better education on the United States Constitution would make more people want to earn their life, liberty and pursuit of happiness.

unfortunately our bumbling president is so inept that he has let our combat-ready troops levels to drop to such a low level that we do not have enough people to 1) win the quagmire we are in Iraq; 2) be able to put troops into Iran or North Korea (or anywhere else for that matter)in the case Bush bungles those situations as well...a bad idea but if it happens there is only one person to blame...Bush

Just because you are rich, you think you can go to your neighbor's house and tell the parents there you don't like the way they feed their kids? You intrude, but the neighbor does not have a gun to shoot you before you break in. You come and announce the kids are lack of nutrition. You force them to drink milk as "it's good for your health" but don't know they are vegetarian? You made them vomit, and now what? You decide to feed them with meat and brain wash them. But their bodies are built only to take certain things, you now make them sick. YOU SHOULD REALIZE YOU MADE A MISTAKE AT THE BEGINNING AND NOW YOU SHOULD LEAVE FROM THE BACKDOOR ASAP.
And the fact is, the reason you want to break into your neighbor's, is because you find out you are short in cash. Instead of finding a second job and work harder to feed your family, you decide to rob the neighbor. You just put on a respectable name called "freedom" but you don't want to work a lower paid job, you just want to take over your neighbor's property for free. Other neighbors say you should not do it, but who cares what they think, you just do whatever you want. What a bully.
I have been in the deepest grief these days, as my best friend was just informed he needs to go back to Iraq.
Just like the rest of us, he joined the army after he got his master degree because he loves the country. He made his way up to captain and spent a year in Iraq. But he decided to leave and started over again in the civilian world because he disagreed the war. And he did not want his kids (4 and 2) to ask their mother whether daddy is.
But now he has no choice. He was called back because of an obligation that was wrong to begin with.
Whoever thinks the war is needed should go back himself, especially the rich guys who yell loud but only send their kids to Ivy-league schools, where they can hardly graduate.
I don't understand how people continue to let Bush and Cheney command more US soldiers to leave their families and devote their lives, knowing these two cowards escape their responsibilities years ago and now they want their families win political previlleges as well as get richer from the gas price?

With the US spreading itself as thin as it is around the globe, I belkieve the draft may be reinstated as early as when the next administration takes over.
