How often do you get to call home from basic training, especially from Fort Jackson?

I didn't go to BCT in Ft. Jackson, so I can't comment on that. There are also several different companies within that training facility, finding a concrete answer is tough.

If you are just going there for your 8 weeks basic training, you can expect to be able to call home when you first get there and you're in your reception company (the place you go before you actually go to your training company) and then somewhere around the third week. It depends on a lot of things though; you have to earn everything in basic training, so if you guys do good, you'll get priveleges earlier.

But I want to reiterate, there really is no way to know.

At FT Jackson basic traing is set into phases. 1st phase is call Red Phase. It is Drill Sgt will be there there a*s so much they get a 3 min phone within the first 72 hours they got there. That is the only call for the frist 3 weeks. Next phase is called Blue Phase. They get more freedom and the can some times call on sundays and they can have a 10 min call. The next phase is called Red Phase that lasts almost until they are done. They can normal call every weekend.
To let u know every unit does it a little different. It all depends how the Commander wants to. I know of some units that got the first call and they got to call when they were done with red phase (4 days before they leave) to let you know that are getting out.

At Basic Training, you get to call home as often as the schedule allows for, as long as you call with the permission of your drill sergeants. The day set aside to call home is usually a Sunday because there is no training on that day of the week, but other days may be designated too, it just depends on the number of federal holidays during your time at basic training.

The only time they will let you make calls is in cases of emergency, or if you happen to get a pass for the weekend. Weekend passes are given until near the end of the training cycle.

At Slacking Jackson when my son was there, his Drill Sgts, did not allow any phone calls. That was a year and a half ago. Lots of letters, but no calls.

I was in 69 at Ft. Polk, so you need to ask your DI.

you get one when you first get there to let them know you have arrived.

Aftre that, they have to be earned. some get them weekly, some don't get them at all.
