Military - October 2006

My husband and I have been married for 4 years and have been blessed with a beautiful baby boy, who turns two next month. We live in a very small retirement town and work dead end jobs. So my husband had decided to join the Military, He says it is to better our lives, But I am not so sure about that. I will support him in what ever he decides, But I am scared out of my mind! I know we will make more money, have better medical, and be able to travel. But I am such a home body and I have always lived so close to my family. The thought of moving into unknow territory really scares me. What is it like being a Military wife? What is it like to live on a Military base? Anything would be very helpful. Thank you

And the question in my mind is how many additional American casualties is Saddam worth?

And the answer is not very damned many. So I think we got it right, both when we decided to expel him from Kuwait, but also when the president made the decision that we’d achieved our objectives and we were not going to go get bogged down in the problems of trying to take over and govern Iraq.

All of a sudden you’ve got a battle you’re fighting in a major built-up city, a lot of civilians are around, significant limitations on our ability to use our most effective technologies and techniques.

Once we had rounded him up and gotten rid of his government, then the question is what do you put in its place? You know, you then have accepted the responsibility for governing Iraq.

Now what kind of government are you going to establish? Is it going to be a Kurdish government, or a Shi’ia government, or a Sunni government, or maybe a government based on the old Baathist Party, or some mixture thereof? You will have, I think by that time, lost the support of the Arab coalition that was so crucial to our operations over there.

I would guess if we had gone in there, I would still have forces in Baghdad today, we’d be running the country. We would not have been able to get everybody out and bring everybody home.

A few years ago, for me it was supposed to be payback for 9/11 a way to end this type of behavior. Instead it is sooooo different.
Am I alone in this?
What does it mean to you today? How does it make you feel?

BAGHDAD -- A reconstruction contract for the building of 142 primary health centers across Iraq is running out of money, after two years and roughly $200 million, with no more than 20 clinics now expected to be completed, Parsons Inc. will walk away from more than 120 clinics, with monies for the projects already paid. This is an 86% shortfall of projected completions.By the end of 2006, the $18.4 billion that Washington has allocated for Iraq's reconstruction runs out.
In January, American reconstruction effort would be able to finish only 300 of 425 promised electricity projects and 49 of 136 water and sanitation projects. With the money nearly gone,. The Corp of Engineers and Parsons have agreed to a settlement under which Parsons would try to finish 14 more clinics by early April and then leave. Se. weeks earlier I had suggested that US contractors had done very little in the way of constructing any new clinics or hospitals. No one agreed with me. Especially the military

Countless others have been injured. When are Bush and his gang going to stop preaching for our children ( not their children) to "stay the course"?

I am really confused about this insurance. I am just recently married so I have a lot to learn about the military. Well my husband is deploying and I am moving back home while he is gone. Before I leave TX to go home will I have to go to the Tricare office and switch my Primary Care Manager? Also to go to an obgyn do I have to get a referral from my PCM or just go where they accept tricare?

Thanks for you help.... all of this stuff is really confusing to me.

I have seen them around at my high school. They seems to be cold toward pretty everyone but those who are in ROTC. Many of them seem to be ultra patriotism and are very defensive of military and USA.

They have been known to do curel thing to those who insult others that have military as a family member. One time one of the cadet go up to this guy who told other guy that his brother deserve to die because he was in military. The cadet end up hurt him really bad and it was so quick.

Is this normal or not? They make me sorta uneasy especially those who are on excrise team or rifle spinning team they seem to be the meanest of all.

I'm thinking of going into the Navy (CTI rating) and I'm wondering if what I'm really going to be is a janitor. I hear stories from some people saying that the military is advanced training in menial labor (cleaning toilets, mopping floors, mowing lawns). Is this true, or do you actually do the job they train you to do?

I'm 245 lbs and 6ft tall. I need to get down to 210 very quickly in order to get the ball rolling (taking the ASVAB and DLAB tests and going to MEPS). How can I do this in 2 months? Is it possible to just not eat for a few weeks and lose weight that way? lol

Fashioned into a 'shorty'wetsuit 9mm thick that covers all your vital organs would you wear them 24/7? What if they were warmer on a cold night or underseas (-32 deg F) and still protective of the 'vitals' ? Oh, how hot would they be in the desert?! or a squadcar?!? Hm, now comes innovation! Ask Du Pont what the hold up is!!
