It was about preventing an eventual attack on America, and it worked. It was also about freeing the Iraqi people, and that worked too. When I think of it now, I think "success!" How else can you explain the fact that the Iraqi military just met us at the door, and surrendered?

shock and awe to me means that i am shocked at the behavior and forgetfulness of the american ppl not only about the losses on 9/11 but the fact that if clinton and even the elder bush had taken care of business like they should have we would have never had to fight this fight....it should have been over and done with 14 yrs. ago...as for awed...i am awed that i live in this free and blessed nation, what an honor and a privilege

It helped a force of some 140,000 disolve the fourth or fifth largest standing army in the world--Iraq under Saddam--in about three weeks. The uniformed military was either destroyed or surrendered and then sent home. The closest thing I can think of to it is when the German army surrounded and destroyed the Grand Army of the French under Napoleon III.

I realize shock and awe is used today as a military term. However, I am old, and to me it represents the feelings I had the first time I saw Maureen O'hara in a movie.

Shock and awe is just a fancy term for overpowering an opponent. Wars use to take years and even decades to win with many more deaths.

I was shocked that G. Bush did not listen to our military generals who knew the problems we face today in Iraq with no real exit strategy.
I am in awe at how much this has, is, and will cost the U.S.
We borrow $40 billion every month to pay our interest. Unbelievable.

I'm shocked at where all the money went. Where did Clinton's surplus go? Where are the fiscal conservatives when we're spending billions over in two foreign countries and there's nothing to show for it but MORE terrorists?
I'm shocked that a party of Rethuglicans can be so "pro-life" and yet hurrah about killing thousands of innocent civilians.
I'm awed by the fact that the November elections are coming...and that has the Republicans wetting their pants.
I've had enough of these foul, lying hypocrites and a lot of other people who vote are too.

It happens when the military is actually allowed to do what they are trained to do and not help back by political correctness.
