Maybe because they`re communist. That might have something to do with it...and America is secretly afraid. It`s like that bully on the playground that goes around bossing kids around because he has problems that he doesn`t wanna show. America puts on a front.

Let's see, there is a leader who acts like a teenager while starving his people, but building one of the largest standing armies in the world. They have virtually denuded their countryside of trees to have more land to farm, but then the enormous erosion the trees would have prevented wipes out farms. The people starve but he has resources to build missles and nuclear reactors and build atomic bombs. He leads a people that gather currency by faking our currency and dealing drugs. He shoots missles over Japan. He trades technology with countries like Lybia when they were our enemies, Iraq under Saddam, and Iran right now--the president of Iran was recently in North Korea during some missle tests, to buy weapons.

If he wanted, he could destroy Seoul, South Korea in an hour or less. If his people figure out how to put their new bomb (if he has one, some indications are that it may have been a dud) on one of their missles, well Japan may have more than Nagasaki and Hiroshima as examples of cities destroyed by nuclear weapons.

So we have this toddler waving around a loaded gun just itching for an opportunity to go "bang". But in the process of stopping him, an awful lot of people will get hurt or killed, people who have no control or voice in the matter. Yet if we leave him alone then literal millions of others may suffer.

Quaddafi became reasonable after our military disarmed Saddam in three weeks. The North Korean leader is not reasonable.

America is not afraid just following proper channels. The UN including China has agreed to punitive actions. If this does not work, the next step will be taken - no one but the Chiefs of Staff would know what that is.
I am sure N Korea is being watched from on high - maybe God but definitely the satellites.

America isn't afraid of North Korea! We just aren't going to allow ourselves to be intimidated by NK's meaningless threats! Yes North Korea HAS openly threatened the US and it's allies in the region via Kim Jung Ill's speeches, missile tests aimed directly at Japan, providing weapons technology to hostile and/or terrorist supporting nations throughout the world, and violating international law and world advice regarding weapons development and testing.

Unfortunately America is more afraid of what people think than of North Korea.

The United States isn't really afraid of North Korea as much as what it wants to do. Kim now says he wants to launch a nuclear missle. That's going to hurt somebody if it explodes.

Afraid enough from North Korea to wipe out all West-Coast states; no California, no Oregon and no Washington states anymore...I can't imagine...

There's the question of nuclear proliferation and a new arms race in the region, where America has a military presence. Also nuclear weapons could potentially be passed on to terrorist organisations.

Americans aren't. Democrats and moderate republicans are. Our nation has lost the backbone to defend this world. However, our nation was also reticent to formally enter into WW2 until we were attacked directly. Now that we have been attacked and are continually under threat, there are those in the Gov't and media that keep their heads buried at the risk of our nations continuation.
