I found some newspapers stories as far back as the early 1900's of men being prosecuted for wife beating, but every article I read about domestic violence seems to suggest otherwise. Does anyone have a female relative who was assaulted by her husband prior to the 1980's and was able to prosecute him?

A total of £36 million has been paid out to failed asylum seekers to enable them to set up businesses back in their own countries, it was reported.

More than 23,000 migrants have received payments of up to £4,000 each under the Voluntary Assisted Return and Reintegration Programme since it was set up in 1999, said The Sunday Telegraph.

It let them set up businesses from market stalls to clothes factories in countries as diverse as South Africa, China and Colombia, the newspaper said.

The details were contained in documents from the Geneva-based International Organisation for Migration, which administers the scheme on behalf of the UK Government.

The Home Office said that the programme - which is part-funded by the EU - offered good value for money compared to forcible returns, which cost £11,000 for each failed asylum seeker.

"Last year we removed more failed asylum seekers than ever before. We will not hesitate to use enforced returns, but when we can spare British taxpayers the £11,000 these each cost, we will," a spokesman said.

"Repatriation assistance isn't new and frees up money to hire more immigration officers."

However, the payments were condemned by shadow home secretary David Davis, who told the newspaper: "Now the price of the Government's failure to secure our borders is all too clear.

"Given their inability to deport illegal immigrants, they have had to resort to bribing them to leave - with the taxpayer picking up the bill."

The disclosure comes as the Government is preparing next week to announce new curbs on foreign visitors from outside the European Union coming to Britain.

I heard conflicting statements, ranging from 40 to 70+ hours a week. I also read that you start out working many hours but then you work less and get paid more after a few years. Also, how many hours do specific lawyers work, such as corporate, intellectual property etc.

i pleaded guilty at magistrates and have been sentenced for deception for selling counterfeit goods, should i appeal due to the harsh sentence that i was given which was 200hrs community order and £1500 fine. It was my 1st offence, i was very co-operating, gave mitigation circumstances, i represented myself and believe the sentence was very harsh, even the probation officer said it was very harsh!, do you think the above is fair? is it worth appealing or not?

also now that i have been convicted i am assuming i shall have a criminal record, how and what information is this logged against? - as all that was given to the magistrates is my address and date of birth do they not need my NI no? i did not give this as i did not have it to hand

I do! I am sick of my taxes supporting generations of feckless lay abouts. Some would come crying "What about the young, old and sick"? Well my retort is let charitable societies take care of them. Allow government to do what it was supposed to and that it protect property and preserve law and order. Bring back the workhouse, poor house and debtors prison and free the taxpayer of supporting the "new leisure class."

I am a realitor, I had a job for 15 years, the company went under. I recieved my realitor licence last year. I have never sold a property yet. I went on unemployment because I cannot pay my bills and could not find a job during the holidays. I have seen temporary employment during the holiday, but it will not cover my expenses. I was working for the same company for 15 years. I cannot find another job that will pay me the same.

My question is; Is it fraud if I collect unemployment while I am a realitor, untill I sell a property to get back on my feet?

by English law we have the presumtion of innocence until proven guilty. Written into the constitution only a judge or a magistrate can impose a fine so therefor how can you be fined other than by a court

I have to use Medco for prescription drugs through my healthplan at work. When i was first covered, they claimed they could not cover Effexor and there was no generic, so they suggested a 'similar' drug, which of course was a name brand, Cymbalta.

They arent similar, the ingredients are totally different. I did research after the fact and found that YES Effexor does come in generic (even at the time I inquired about it). I had a terrible experience with Cymbalta, even going to the ER once.

Is Medco liable for any of this? They flat out LIED to me. Maybe i should have done my due dilligence first, but i didnt think the company would lie. I guess i was too naieve.

or are we terrorizing? Personally, I think that if I was asked to shoot someone who was even POSSIBLY innocent, I would refuse no matter the cost to myself. (ofcourse I am a pacifist who could never shoot anyone) Not that I am judging these men for following orders. You do what you can, right?
Now....imagine this. That is your hometown. That old lady is YOUR grandma. That taxi driver, was your husband, or best friend, or brother, or son. Imagine that people carrying ak47's bust into your home, without warning, pointing their deadly weapons at you and yelling at you in a foreign language. You can't understand them, you have done nothing wrong, your country, you state, your city are being invaded by these people who seem intent on stealing your nations natural resources, and telling YOU who should be in charge of your gov't....
What would you think?
