Try a Farm or Feed store. I live in a rural area and had a bad mouse/rat problem. Bought some stuff called Just One Bite and in 3 days, I had no more problems. It's about $3.50 for a "bar" of this stuff. You break/cut off pieces and place them in problem areas.

The "just one bite" product and other rat bait products all seem to work very well and will get rid of the rats in a few days. Some of them (maybe all of them, I'm not sure) cause the rats to crave water, and they will usually go to the nearest source of water and die there. I had a rat eat through the insulation on water lines in the attic. To avoid problems like this, it was recommended that I put out a pan of water near the bait-- it may require removal of the dead rats. I haven't tried it.

On the other hand, our small town had a local eccentric who would walk a few miles into town to buy a big bag of dog food to feed his rats. The neighbors complained to the police, who found hundreds of the varmints swarming on his property. I'll bet that was a fun day for the Animal Control people.

Get a couple rat terrier dogs, or any kind of dogs. They keep country critters away.

I'd try poison. Or rat traps. Or a cat.
