is it considered a "long gun" because if it is, i can own it at 18, and it doesnt need to be registered, I wasnt sure because they are automatic weapons.

They are semi-autos so the purchase rules are the same as any other long gun. The rules vary by state though. Maryland for example doesn't allow purchase of certain guns just based on their appearance (for example, black guns are not permitted). The NRA has a great list of all state gun laws, I would go on there if I were you.

yes thats awesome try going to gun shows there you can get them with out all the red tape. i'm 18 and bought a 9mm pistol your suppose to be 21 to get them in my state but at gun shows they don't check any of that as long as you have the money.

what state do you live in? you have to remember that the AR-15 is a class 2 assault weapon so maybe not

yes......there is no reason that you can't buy a rifle as long as you meet all other legal stipulations
