I have always wanted to open my own bar. Now that I am close to being able, these stupid smoking bans are coming into effect. I just want to know what the exceptions are. I heard one person saying Cigar shops will have exceptions.
So what are the exceptions to this smoking ban in Illinios.

I have recently been served with a subpoena to testify in court. I am going to be absent from work for two days. Am I supposed to be getting paid from my employer during this time? I talked with my boss and he says that the company I work for doesn't pay for that and he also said that they don't pay for jury duty. I have always been under the impression that employees were supposed to get paid for these things. If anyone can help I would appreciate it greatly and if there are any laws and regulations regarding this matter I would like to have a URL to them so I can print them off. Thanks.

A friend spent much of her Church-school childhood in terror of getting another log on the fire of Hell. Now we're alarmed about terrorists who kill far fewer people than die on the roads - while our politicians avoid laws that would inconvenience motorists or upset car makers, and declare we must protect the economy while avoiding actions that might prevent climate change that threatens life on Earth. What price homo sapiens?

I received a summon for jury duty in the mail (I live in Clark County, Washington State). I read through it, and saw that my jury duty was in mid January, so I thought I could simply show upto report. I didn't see (in very small print in the corner) a passage stating "You must reply to this summons by mail in FIVE DAYS" and right below that stating "Failing to report to jury duty is a misdemeanor offense". I just noticed this today when I reread it. I'm mailing the letter first thing tomorrow with the highest priority, but I'm sure it's been almost two weeks since I got the thing. I'm wondering:

-Can I be charged for a misdemeanor in Washington State for failing to reply to a jury summons BY MAIL. I am ready and capable to show up to the actual summons.

Thank you for the replies, SERIOUS COMMENTS ONLY!

In Missouri a State Trooper was speeding on the interstate to get to the aid of fellow officers who were attempting to catch a known criminal that was about 50 miles from his station. About 15 miles from were he left, he crashed into a stalled tractor trailer and got killed. The criminal was caught and tried for his crime plus the crime of murder . Why was he tried for murder when he was 50 miles away ?

Heres the details. We've been married for almost two and a half years. We have a beautiful two week old son. Im nineteen and he is twenty-two. Grounds for divorce is adultry. He cheated on me, I got pissed and cheated on him. Immature and definetely the wrong decision, I know. So what are the chances for a granted divorce with a covenant marriage, even with a really good lawyer.

My brother was in a very small car accident back in 2005, a lady cut in front of him as he was stopping at a red light. The cars did not have any scratches, and the two drivers were not injured by the cause of it, as my brother was coming to a very slow stop when the lady decided to get in front of him.

They did not call police, just exchanged names.

Fast forward to today, my brother recieved a subpena to go to court as the lady claims her car suffered 1,300 in damages/painted whole car, and she is claiming horrible neck pain etc. She is suing for $5k. And the court date is set for Feb of next year, and it's set for a court about 400 miles away from where the accident occured.

This is very bizarre, and obviously this lady is lying.

Since there was no police report, and it's two years later, what kind of rights does this lady have? Supposedly she has medical proof that she is injured. But this could be from anything really.

Any help or advice, I would appreciate it!

just to let you know, this did NOT happen to me
i'm taking a self defense class at school and we are put in these rape scenarios...and that made me have a lot of questions about what is considered rape

okay two circumstances, would they be considered rape and what would the average jail time be for the rapist?

1. a minor (say, 15) is walking home from school, a man jumps out, says that he has a knife and she needs to do whatever he tells her to, and begins to undress her and have sex with her...however, she is in shock and does not say no and does not resist the man from having sex with her because her body is in shock. (would the rapist only be charged with statutory rape or other charges as well?)

2. the same scenario except with somebody over 18

Do they get paid ful before going to the court with you? If that's the case, why does he case about losing, he's got the money already. Or do lawyers get paid certain portion of the full amount before going to the court and winning or losing the case decides whatever he gets the rest of the money or not?

I have been living in my apartment building for over a year. The apartment constantly has a fumigation/cigarette smell. First I asked the management company to fix the problem. They tried for several months and the problem still remained. I then asked them if I could be released from my lease obligations because they were not able to stop the smell. They said no, they cannot release me from my lease so I just continued to live in the apartment. A few weeks ago I found out I have some problems with my throat and lungs after went to the doctors. I am a non-smoker. It has not yet been linked to living in my apartment, but I'm almost 100% sure I'm sick due to living in the apartment. Do I have a legitimate case? Can I take the management company to court?
