It is legal to do so in the United States, but not in France. There they will refuse to register really stupid names.

No. The laws on libel/slander, blasphemy and public obscenity apply to names in the same way as any other form of speech or record.

That doesn't mean parents can't saddle their children with some incredibly stupid handles. One proud father in England showed his loyalty to his favourite soccer team by naming his newborn after the entire Liverpool first team. She's a girl, but what the hell, he's a true fan. I hope she understands when she's older.

You probably can't name it after a copyrighted company like Coca Cola, Cadbury etc
