MY friend's fiance is working illegally. They work 6 days a week, 12 hour days (except Sunday when they work 8 hours. They only get a a half-hour lunch break. Isn't it illegal for the boss to do this? How can she start getting payed normally and working normal hours? What should she do? Shoul her fiance hire a lawyer? she is paid less than US $8 dollars an hour. The boss also doesn't let her stay home when she is sick (she has been forced to work when she had the flu). Shouldn't her boss allow her to stay home if she is sick? what should her fiance do?
help!

I posted this a few hours ago but didn't receive the right kind of answer back.
I got my phone confiscated yesterday at 2:00PM. It was the second offense [It was ringing]. I handed over the phone expecting to receive the phone at the end of the school day. I was informed that I must wait 24 hours and have a parent / guardian pick the phone up.
24 hours later I came hesitent to the office to pick the phone up. I'm an Entraprenuer and currently run my own buisness [Server management] and lost money, and also the phone is an RMA exchange through cingular and need's to be returned Or i will be billed for a new phone [500, treo 750].

Are they allowed to keep the phone under these circumstances?
My parents are currently out of town [seriously] for some family arrangement,[im currently 17, two months shy of 18]. and will be gone for the next 2 more days.

What should i do? Any help / legal refrence's [court cases] would be appriacted. THanks.

Hey I don't know much about the Digital Millennium Copyright Act so I was hoping somebody could clear my suspicions up.

I was told that once a movie hits the air, it is public use for people to copy to DVR.. etc..Is it legal to burn a "recorded" movie that was broadcast on LOCAL tv, onto a DVD for personal use?

What in the world?? Add to this strange bit, the guy was dead?? Does anyone else see a huge problem with this idea? Theoretically, a guy donates to help out couples who can't conceive, or maybe just for the cash, then gets hit with a child support suit. I think it's wrong. He didn't choose to have a child, nor did he actually engage in the child making act that created the child. Is he responsible for the child? I'd like to hear both sides of this discussion.

he stopped off to buy some ciggys and the next thing they bombarded his car with housebricks and proper smashed it up. The cctv camera was apparently looking the other way and the police said there is nothing they can do cos they got no proof. this is ridiculous. i knew i supported BNP for a reason. If it was white lads smashing up a car with a pakistani in it then they would be locked up by now.

I had an insurance agent named "Joe". He was always friendly when I came in to pay my bill. For several months I went in to make a payment and Joe was not there. I would ask about him and they would say he was off today. Finally I went in and asked about Joe and they stated that Joe died last week. I had not seen Joe in over a year. My receipt even that day had Joe's signature on it. Can they do this?

A student at my school threatened to bring a gun to school; he even described the location to me. I told the principal, but he brushed me away by saying "He's probably just messing with you." I take him seriously though, because he does have a history of depression problems and suicide attempts. Should I go to the police?

I got an e-mail stating that an order I had made would be sent to me, however, I did not order anything from this particular company and I told them that, but they had already sent it. One worker told me to keep it, another said send it back, but it was their mistake, do I have to send it back? Or can I keep it?

I was at SFO yesterday trying to get my car from long term parking. Instead of taking the shuttle, I decided to take a cab because my Dad got injured during the trip and he couldn't walk. I just tried to get my family home asap. This taxi driver, #139 from SF TaxiCab, with license plate 7D10662 refused to take me to long term parking. He said he doesn't know how to get there when there is a sign about 10 feet away from him. I said you can make me an offer for the rate because I understand he was in line for a long time and I don't mind paying extra. He just kept saying he doesn't know how to get there. The dispatch person came over and got involve and he still refused service.
Luckily, there's another taxi driver came up and volunteer to take me there.
I was informed that it is illegal for a taxi driver to refuse service to a customer and I want to find out how to report him. Thanks!

Hello everyone,
recently my mother was fired from her job, a large telephone service carrier. After her father's death a couple of years ago, her doctor, which the company paid for, diagnosed her with depression and said that she couldn't work. After the first diagnosis and a few months out of work, her job ordered her back to work, but the doctor said no and she was fired. After filing a complaint with the union, she got her job back. Now after about a year, she again was diagnosed with depression and ordered not to work. Months later, her job, against the doctor's orders, called and ordered her back to work within a week, then she was fired again. She is in the process of trying to get her job back again. I wanted to know if she can/should take legal action against her former employer. She was twice fired from the company after she was diagnosed with depression and told that she was unable to work. Does the Rehabilitation act cover depression? Her Doctor says to sue. Can we?

My lawyer who was working and was hired by my POA whose powers have since been revoked,is now asking to verify authenticy of my emails to him (the lawyer). ie. he wants to know whether I, his client, is actually writing the emails to him. What are the laws governing the authenticity of emails and their acceptibility in the Indian courts for any pending cases?

This is a serious matter and would like to get replies from those who know and can cite laws pertaining to the admissibility and authenticity of emails.

Thank you.

Coming from a country where we have very few firearms incidents, and every one is national news when it happens, I can't really understand the resistance in the US to gun control.

The second amendment of the US Constitution gives the citizens of the US the right to bear arms, and is usually the thing quoted in any argument against gun control. However, this right was drafted in the context of raising and maintaining a civil militia. In modern terms, the US National Guard. So, the constitution allows the bearing of arms in the National Guard. In UK terms, this would be the Territorial Army. Why is this then used to argue the allowing of arms, and military arms, for general civilian use?

Quoted from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution

Second Amendment to the US Constitution:
"A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed"

I see a lot of dialog in this forum about how great the Canadian health care program is. I have two Canadian friends who migrated to the US because they paid the equivalent of a 60% income tax rate in Canada, and, in their opinion had better choices for health care and better return on their health care dollars in the US than they did in Canada.

One was a doctor and the other was a surgical nurse. They earn more per year than many Americans, and that may have been a factor. I don't know if the same tax ratio would be applied to a lower income individual.

I am curious as to how many of you would be willing to pay much higher taxes at that rate to have guaranteed health care. It isn't free (as is often implied in this forum) because the tax payer subsidizes it. However, everyone is entitled to good medical care in Canada. The US subsidizes medical care for only the poorest people.

I need to find out where I can research a company called alpine logistics inc.

They offered my girlfriend a work at home oppurtunity. They said she would be receiving packages from the states, asia and europe. Then shipping them to a third party to the same locations. Is this legal?

She has received one package that contains a Ipod and was shipped directly to her from Apple Corp. Alpine logistics inc will provide her with us postal labels (they were sent Fedex to her)

They also said they would pay her $30 for each package using Paypal ...what do you think ? How can I check if this is legit????
