In my solicitor's office there is a quote up on the wall that reads like this: "Justice? You get justice in the next life. In this life you have the law.".

I never could understand the reason for it being there. Was he being ironic on purpose? All I could ever take from it was that he was recognising the inherent corruption of his profession and flaunting it in the face of his clients. If so, it tells you a lot about lawyers...

It used to be innocent until proven guilty. Now its guilty until proven innocent. My daughter is is some legal trouble and was fired from her job when her prior job (the one she's in trouble with) called her new job about it. That was illegal on both partys but it happened. Her legal fees are getting so high that she is considering going to court without a lawyer but she knows that is not worth the risk. I had the same thing happen with a coworker, when the newspaper printed his arrest he lost his job. He was found innocent of all charges.

You can't break the law and win; if you are innocent of a crime and have been charged, of course you can prove your innocence in court.

Fight the law? If you're rich and powerful enough you can write it any way you want, then ignore it.

Been done too many times for me to say it can't be done; but you need a really good team of lawyers and a metric butt-ton of money to pull it off.
