Hey I don't know much about the Digital Millennium Copyright Act so I was hoping somebody could clear my suspicions up.

I was told that once a movie hits the air, it is public use for people to copy to DVR.. etc..Is it legal to burn a "recorded" movie that was broadcast on LOCAL tv, onto a DVD for personal use?

what is presented on TV is a performance, not a copy of the movie. home recording is considered a timeshift so you can watch the performance at a different time than originally broadcast. you don't "own" a copy of the movie, and use other than watching at a later time would most likely be not legal. certainly, any further distribution or sharing of your copy would be a serious offense.

You cannot 'reproduce' the movie to dvd.
the DVR uses a whole different technology, cant think of the technical reference.
