Last month a phone solicitor called me at work and was telling me about what seemed like a pretty good deal at the time. Basiclly the deal was that I can get 10 different subscriptions to 10 different magizines of my choice in payments of twenty dollars a month for two years. After 2 years I would not have to make anymore payments but the magazines would still keep coming for an additional year after that. Being busy at work without the time to really think about the commitment I was making ($480 dollars over 48 months) I ended up giving a verbal voice recorded agreement that I would pay and not cancel for any reason. One week later, before I actually started receiving any magazines I called the place and told them I wanted to back out of the deal. Not only did they tell me I couldn't cancel, they are threating to send me over to a collection agency. I'm wanting to know if I have any rights in this matter at all. Is there any legal way to get out of a verbal agreement?

This is probably a stupid question, but i'll ask just to be sure. I'm 16. My boyfriend's mother, for whatever reason, has decided that she doesn't like me. I've done nothing to her. I've never threatened her. I've actually been incredibly nice to her, considering the way she treats me [which is like dirt.] She is now saying she is going to file a restraining order against me, so that I can't be around her [i don't object to THAT in the least.] or her son. She can't file a restraining order on someone out of the blue, without a good reason and with no proof of any accusations she might be able to think up, can she? Also, if anyone has ANY advice on how to deal with this woman, I'd appreciate it. I need all the help i can get. Thanks for your time.

In India Polititians because of greed for votes are implimenting reservations in all the jobs be it private or government. this has created environment of insecurity among the so called general catagory. They feel cheated and betrayed. Its them who have worked hard to make India a power to recon with. Now if reservations are made compulsory in private sector also then the future of GC is at stake. Should they start a second battle ofr independence, and demand for a seperate GC homeland.

Okay uh, long story.. but.. well, an ex-friend of mine told her brother some stuff about me, that's all bs.. saying that I had made people go up to her and say stuff/made alot of people hate her/bully her (asif it were required), but, yer.. I didn't anyway.
I'm not generally a mean person, just when it comes to her and another old friend of mine, they caused alot of hassle and lie or try to get me into trouble or arguments alot at school, which I have to either ignore completely or walk away from.
Well her brother, he basically came up to me on the way home today while I was with two friends, and threatened me and swore and shouted a HELL of alot at me.
Hes.. 17 or 18 and I'm 15. He doesn't go to my school (hes left school by now) but his sister does...
Is there actually anything I can do about it?

Pres. George W.(imp) Bush continually violates the Constitution and our rights and freedoms granted by it. Why hasn't he been impeached? Are the Republicans in Congress that scared of Dick Cheney?

I heard this question today equating it to the idea that an unborn child is part of a woman's body and therefore it is her "right" to remove "it". I have other reasons for abhorring abortion, which I would gladly articulate, but this is the first time I had come across this argument. I find it quite intriguing.

I understand the importance of the HIPAA laws. But - I work in a defense lawfirm as a paralegal - and medical facilities will not give up records - EVEN IF SUBPOENAED - without a HIPAA-compliant authorization. It seems to me that HIPAA laws would not apply when a person brings about a legal action where their own personal injuries are the focal point of that legal action! Is this a misinterpretation of HIPAA laws by the medical facilities - or does HIPAA make medical record document gathering so stringent that it really makes it almost impossible for defense firms to gather records & do their jobs? I think if someone is suing for personal injury - they really have waived their right to privacy when it comes to those medical records. Does the HIPAA law directly address this situation?

Can my wife take our son to mexico without my permission? She threatens me with this if we were to split up. Instead of going to court for custody she says she will just move back to mexico and if i want to see my son I can fly there to visit. I want to go the legal route with this but not sure what to do if she decides to just take off. Things are really rocky bad between us right now and its headed for a divorce. How can I protect my son from being taken out of this country. He and I are legal citizens here she is not (yeah, I know i should have been more careful). Anyways my son is the most important thing here. Any advice would be helpfull.

This has been an on going dispute with the court system for almost 18yrs. I have provided the courts with paternity test proven that the child is not mine. Since the mother cannot provide a paternal father they will not release me of child support obligation. I have another appeal coming up soon, but they will reject it like the others. This has been a waste of time with the courts because they don't want to hear me. What action do I need to take with the court to clear me of this obligation of child support. Also the mother has admitted to the courts that I am not the biological father they also won't hear her. I don't have much money, I'm not working at this moment how can I get free legal assistance to represent me in court?

I see so many criminals on here whining about how their records affect their lives, and wanting to live as though they never committed the crime. But face it. Murder victims and people killed because of drunk drivers are still dead. (And when I say murder, I mean murder, not self-defense.) My uncle is in a wheelchair forever as a result of what a worthless drunk driver did to him, why should the woman who chose to drink herself into a stupor when she knew she had to drive get to live like it never happened?

Remember, these people make a choice to break the law. They choose to rob the convenience store, shoot the clerk (instead of working for the money) or get drunk when they know they will be driving. So it's not like they are in any way victims.

And just in case anyone wants to bring up the sob story about the guy who was "just along for the ride" when his friends decided to commit a crime, keep in mind he chose to hang with people he knew were criminals.

Above all, California takes first prize in this.

Why can't customers in a bar legally smoke, if there's a clear warning outside that it's a smoking establishment and all the employees agree to it?

Why am I required to wear a helmet when I ride a motorcyle? How is obstructing my peripheral vision and muffling my hearing suppose to make me safer?

Why should I, or anyone else, care if my neighbor smokes pot as long as he doesn't effect anyone but himself? It doesn't make sense to me that the Police waste their time on petty drug use.

In 2008, we legally can't hold a cell phone to our head while driving. How the hell will this be enforced anyway? It'll be my word versus the Police Officer's word -- and everyone knows who wins on that! Sounds like an excuse to pull someone over. I think I'll drive around with a brick to my ear to see what happens.

Why is someone who is 18 old enough to join the military, pay taxes and is considered an adult, but not old enough to drink?
