This bill will pave the way for an almost complete stop to both illegal and legal immigration. People generally don't immigrate from one third world country to another.

The government set up the H1B and L1 visa programs. As a result, 9 Indian companies have set up shop in the US and hire nothing but H1B visa holders. The 9 companies account for 20,000 of the 65,000 annual H1B visas granted. US law requires they document why they can't find and hire American workers if the percentage of H1B visa workers employed is greater than 15%. They simply ignore the requirement. The L1 visa program was designed to allow international companies to transfer employees from foreign offices to the US to work. It was intended to allow the transfer of executives and such to assist in US operations. Now, the Indian companies (and a lot of American companies) use the loophole to transfer consultants to the US and hire them out to the IT departments of their clients. Abuse of this program is rampant. Congress wants to increase the H1B visa quota, even though they're aware of the fraud. How can we trust them on the issue of illegal immigration? I certainly can't.

Do you think they are hard-working, and do manual labor for little pay, which no other citizen would do?

Or do you have other thoughts about them?

Can you provide support for why you feel that way? Or is it just an opinion?

I have seen people just talk dirty about mexicans, not knowing the issue at hand about immigration-illegal immigration, so, I understand that is ignorant from them, but, dont you see like a pattern in the american and world history with this type of stuff?. eg. Germany with the Jews (1920-30-40), they where all against them because of the same reason, and I actually have heard a lot of the same insults; taking away jobs, paranoia of their numbers in population, racial issues of appearance....also; United States before the emmancipation proclamation, white people against blacks. I mean, wow, is just scary the way white people are talking about them, I just hope that the US will follow in its own footsteps from the past; that all men are created equal.......or something

Will the government give them amnesty? After all you can't put 15 million Americans in jail for tax evasion.
Perhaps Congress could pass much needed "Taxpayer Reform".legislation. Obviously the current tax laws aren't working. This bill would require tax evaders to pay a "meaningful fine" of say $1000 or $5000 to get back in good standing with the IRS (without having to pay the original taxes that they evaded, of course). This will bring these good people, that are just trying togive their families a better life, out of the shadows.
But we can't make them pay the taxes they evaded. That's just not realistic. Most of them have used that money already to buy homes. They are just trying to live the American dream like anybody else. If they had to sell their homes, the housing market would collapse.
Other tax evaders have used the money to start businesses. They are actually helping the economy.
Call your senator and tell them to vote YES on AMNESTY FOR TAX EVADERS

"WASHINGTON (CNN) -- House Republicans voted overwhelmingly late Tuesday in favor of a resolution opposing an immigration reform plan being debated on the Senate floor, a move that could place a significant roadblock in front of the measure if it clears the Senate.

By a vote of 114-23, the House Republican Conference approved a statement by Rep. Pete Hoekstra of Michigan that simply read: "Resolved the House GOP Conference disapproves of the Senate immigration bill." The vote came during a closed door meeting.

House Democratic leaders have previously said they would not bring the immigration bill to the Senate floor unless at least 70 of the 201 GOP members were on board.

Like some shambling undead Thing from a horror movie, the amnesty bill we all thought buried with a stake in its heart has been resurrected. Once again it's headed to the senate floor to wreak havoc. But this is the kind of summer sequel most people don't want to see. Neither Democrats nor Republicans in Washington seem to understand -- or care -- how unhappy the American people are about this bill.
And we are unhappy about it... Many Americans are outraged by the idea of rewarding criminals by allowing them to keep what they took. While hundreds of thousands of people around the world patiently await permission to come to this country, or go home when their visas expire, illegals decided the rules didn't apply to them. Allowing them to become permanent residents violates our sense of fair play almost as much as it violates our laws. We're assured that they will be at the "back of the line" for citizenship... but that line is supposed to form on the other side of the border.
We're unhappy about rewarding criminal behavior. We're told that these illegals should be honored because they wanted to become Americans so badly that many of them risked death to come here. (We'll just ignore the fact that money was probably the real motivation for most of them.) But becoming American must include showing some regard for American sovereignty, and American laws. Those who deliberately crossed our borders illegally or overstayed their visas did not show that respect. Many ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS falsify records and documents on a daily basis, supply false Social Security numbers to employers, and lie to obtain drivers' licenses, credit cards and other documents. Moreover, those hundreds of thousands who marched protesting law enforcement waving mexican flags and holding signs saying "This is our continent not yours" didn't appear to want to become Americans, did they? Why should we reward them for that?
We don't like the idea of creating a huge permanent underclass of low-level workers, either. Once granted legal status, all those people doing "jobs Americans won't do" won't want to do them either -- not at the low wages they're currently paid. They'll want better jobs, with better pay. Prices for agricultural products and construction will rise as employers are forced to pay minimum wage, but that's not the worst effect of a mass legalisation. Competition for available jobs in other areas will rise sharply. Competition for many blue-collar jobs will force wages to dip towards minimum wage level, creating a sharper division between blue-collar and white-collar workers, or lower class and middle class. Unemployment and entitlements will rise, and taxes will follow. Class warfare and envy politics fueled by racial divisions -- the staples of Democratic campaigns -- will escalate, granting the Democrats a huge vote windfall for many years to come. The fact that so many Republicans (including the President himself) are willing to sign the death warrant of their own party is amazing.
Many people are unhappy about this bill because of the way members of Congress and the President tried to shove it through the Senate quickly, without time for the bill to be amended before debate. The Bill was introduced on Thursday 17 May, and a vote to open debate on the final version was scheduled for Monday 21 June. The bill was not even written in final form until that Sunday, and most Senators hadn't even seen it by the time they were expected to vote, much less had time to draft amendments. Public outcry pushed back the vote to give Senators time to propose amendments and gauge public opinion. After the move for cloture -- an attempt to bring the bill up for a vote -- failed, the bill was removed from the floor. But President Bush, when attacking opponents of the bill didn't work, pushed his supporters in the Senate to bring it back after adding some money for border security -- the security that was mandated in a bill last year, and about which nothing much was done.
But it's still the same terrible bill, which grants a de facto amnesty to millions of criminal trespassers (no matter what its proponents want to call it), allowing them to stay as permanent residents and bring tens of millions of new immigrants into the country. Thanks to Liberal "multiculturalism," many of those people will never integrate into American society. It's like a home invasion on a massive scale, while the government's response is to tell us we just have to live with our new housemates. And the border fence that was mandated in the Secure Fence Act of 2006 is still not built, which means that in another decade or so, we'll have to go through all of this again. Before we decide what to do about the estimated 12-20 million illegal immigrants in this country, we have got to ensure that it's the last time we have to deal with the problem.
Back in 1986, we were told that we would have real border security, in exchange for a one-time amnesty. Well, the politicians got their one-time amnesty. Now, we want our security.

"Conservatives succeeded in delaying until Wednesday consideration of a package of amendments designed to pave the way for a final vote on the bill.

They did so by using Senate rules to insist that the entire 373-page package be read aloud, relenting only when Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., agreed to postpone action on the amendments."

I think not only should it be read aloud, all Senators should have to remain present while that happens. What do you think?

I heard that the senators are pushing for the new US Immigration bill. What effect does that have on people immigrating to the US in the future? Will it make it easier for skilled University-degree workers to get a US green card, harder, or no effect? (Coming from a Canadian seeking a dual citizenship)

Thanks.

I really wonder why people dont get off the "Illegal Mexican Immigration" and start worrying about bigger issues like gas prices and getting the government to raise Minimum wage.
If everyone would put all that stress and attention to these things then maybe America would get better for the lower to middle class population....Think of it! Just think...Not worrying about something that doesn't directly effect you and start worrying about something that does!
Just a thought. What are your opinions. No smart butt answers please.

If people do talk openly it , then you have fear of getting blacklisted by people, jobs etc just because you're against all of the goodies that the illegals are gonna get just for crossing border.

Immigration to America in the 17th to 19th century was by decent, hardworking, well intentioned people, heading to America with honorable intentions to build and contribute to society. They created a workable social system with benefits to the deserving and a society of well-intentioned and decent people. But no such people come any more.

Now they come in droves, packing the major cities, causing an increase in crime, congestion, and taxes as real estate rents soar, parking is unavailable or exorbitantly high. Americans who took their entire lives to pay off their home mortgages, now find that the taxes on their homes are so high, they cant afford to live in them any more and the congestion so bad, they cant even find a place to park in front of their own homes. Many have to pack up and move out of the city, just to make ends meet, and then face the arduous daily hours of driving back and forth just to get to work and back home. That is, those that still have jobs, since as this goes on, jobs disappear, either right here where we get laid off, or the whole company moves out to a cheap labor country. And as the hordes make demands for energy needs, power needed to heat and light homes and buildings is insufficient, and cities black out, the demand for gas soars, heating prices skyrocket, and our own supply of gas becomes insufficient to meet our own needs, and we become victims of the arabs, who use the pumps to revenge our policies they don’t like.

They pile over the borders or by plane on visitor visas, preying on the good naturedness of Americans to provide a refuge for the oppressed, they connive the appearance of the downtrodden and persecuted, and then sit down comfortably and stay here, leeching off the health care system which faces bankruptcy in 20 years, the welfare system that us sucker u.s. taxpayers have to pick up the tab for, and which we spent decades to build.

Social parasites from latin america, flock here to live free on us sucker taxpayers, dragging their families and relatives in, once they get green cards and then swamping the health care system with their third world illnesses and birth defects. And the other breed of latinos – criminals of the most evil intensities terrorizing communities in which they rob and kill.

Thieves and common criminals from the countries of eastern Europe and the soviet union, hearing that there is still stuff on store shelves when stores close, that hasn’t been shoplifted or sold, come and steal, with impunity.

Mafia organizations that control Russia and the countries of the former soviet union, setting up foreign crime systems that specialize in grand larceny, weaponry, even nuclear arms materials for sale, stolen from the old soviet system, available for sale to our enemies, raking them million$.

Africans with strange ,deadly diseases walk in, causing epidemics and death to our gay citizens and to innocent people in general and swamping the health care system.

Asians with alien religious philosophies, contrary to Christian monotheism, poisoning the minds of our youth. And they come and take our jobs away here in America, while employers, enticed by cheap labor, move their companies there, leaving us unemployed,.

Terrorists walk in and go about their death tactics with ease and we shudder at what they will do to us next.

All, contributing to crime, violence, social unrest.

Finally, To add insult to this injury, our government picks up the tab for hundreds of
thousands of third world “students” to come, pack our universities tuition free at the expense of us US taxpayers ,while we Americans fall into debt to pay for our own children to get a college education.

AND WE ARE EXPECTED TO PICK UP THE TAB WORLDWIDE
FOR THEM, WHENEVER S--T HAPPENS ANYWHERE.
What kind of fools are running this country?
What kind of fools are we to let this go on?

As you know our “brilliant government” intends to legalize 12, 000, 000, people who are in our country illegally. There here, so it really does not matter at this point. What do you think about annexing the entire country, just like we did with the other 37 states? With full voting rights, American money, English as the official language. Shoot, they want to be part of this country, America business say they can’t make it without them, We are going to pay for them anyway, so what do we have to lose? Mexico would no longer exist, but in its place would be 10-12-15 however many states could be formed under the same rules and requirements that all of the other states have come in to the Union with. Would we not gain, more that we stand to lose. What do you think about this?

This is a win win deal for the Government

Of course they are going to reward the 20,000,000 illegals by giving them amnesty!

They will make a killing off their income taxes alone!

Think of all the new Government lending programs they can create

Think of all those new votes - 20,000,000 new votes is a lot!

Think of all the new low cost labor they will have to build the 20 lane North American Union Superhighway!

I hope our Government has room for the 100,000,000 that will cross once this passes!

Insane

America is once again being sold out for profit!
