I think America has made it too easy for spanish speaking people to not have to learn English.... I have had quit a lot of contact with different Spanish speaking people, Mexican, Puerto Rican, Guat. etc. I found that the young and young adults want to learn English but the older ones don't and they are less likely to drive or work. I was dating a guy some twenty years ago that was from Puerto Rico, came here and spoke no English. Withing a year he had taught himself to speak English. But he had to, there was noone at the store or reasturant to translate, and americans expected people from other countries to learn the language then....

Because corporate and political America caters to them. There is no reason why anything in this country should be bi-lingual, except at airports or border crossings.

There should be a simple rule: If you intend to live in the United States, you need to learn English to do so.

This applies to everyone too, not just our Southern neighbors. It's insane to go to an ATM and see Korean, Vietnamese, Spanish, French and English on the screen. The same for dialing in to companies. If I wanted to "oprima numero dos," I'd call to a Spanish speaking country.

Just because there are so many Mexicans in thier community that they don't need to. It's not a matter of race or culture, merely demographics. In the past, Mexicans assimilated like everyone else, because they were alone or in small communities surrounded by English-speaking Americans. Today, they don't need to, because they can live in illegal-immigrant-majority towns in the SW, where spanish is the primary language.

THis assimilation your talking about takes generations. People who are here now that don't speak English will have children that speak both languages. In turn, when those children have children, English will be their primary language and so on. Eventually the foreign language gets eliminated. How many people here that had late ancestors from Gemany speak German? A minimal amount at best.

incredibly, jdc6733 is optimal, Latins won't be able to talk suitable Spanish and that infuriates me. consequently of them Spanish regrettably has substitute into some variety of "uncerclass" language, spoken basically by ability of the ignorant, uneducated artwork tension. This incredibly is a pity, on condition that Spanish is an distinctly captivating language, while used properly - between the main mandatory works of Western literature, Cervantes's Don Quixote, replaced into written in Castilian (which, by ability of ways, is the right call of the "Spanish" language). What the undertaking is in this usa isn't that Hispanics communicate Spanish. i could be very happy to have a French-speaking neighbor, case in point. the undertaking is, that the Latins' indifference in direction of training and progression are damaging the rustic as an entire. constructive, Mexicans mow your backyard and do the flaws that no one else will do, for a ridiculously low salary . yet, being area of a custom that "emphasizes the cost of the kinfolk," Latins tend to have greater toddlers than the established non-Hispanic. Then the rustic will could desire to discover a thank you to handle thousands of youngsters with neither ethical nor educational training. and those toddlers, in basic terms like the Anglo-Saxons, are to alter into electorate. Hispanics are actually not the only in charge, to be sure. as quickly as I first got here to u . s . a ., i stumbled on it fairly ironical that lots of the universal public television broadcasting agencies, besides as many radio stations, are Spanish-speaking. everywhere you bypass in California there will be government agencies, and all varieties of financial estalishments the place Spanish is spoken - no longer the Spanish of an informed person, however the Spanish of a Chicano who possibly cant even write decently and has an undesirable, absurdly "americanized" accessory. So, the answer to the question is: many Mexs refuse to income English using conformity and mediocrity - they could fairly smash their backs and sell oranges illegaly for a pair of greenbacks an afternoon for something of their working lives, so as that afterwards, as quickly as their multiple offspring strengthen adequate to alter into electorate, they could substitute into citizens, and rely on the welfare equipment for which all of us are paying. inspite of each thing, what are you able to anticipate from somebody who deserted his usa, and risked his existence to pass the border using fact he replaced into too selfish to help his very own usa to get out of poverty?

Hey, they probably are, it takes a while to learn a new langauge, and to assimilate will take a bit longer. We have to have patience.

And i want you to prove Mexicans are the only ones refusing to assimilate and learn English. You can't. YOu don't know anything.

Look at the reconquista efforts. They arent fringe groups. People should learn english and assimilate just like my ancestors did and as did most of yours. They shouldnt be coming here and sending the majority of their income back to Mexico. Maybe we should invade Mexico and rid it of the gangs that run the place.

Maybe because they keep to themselves w/out any outside stimuli. All that is spoken at home is spanish, so it makes it very hard to learn. They work together, live together in large groups. Usually there is one or two family members who, over time, have learned enough english to get by.I feel sorry for the teachers! Must be hard to teach a child who knows no english!
