Congressman: Convicted agent's injuries are worse than reported-by Sara Carter (Daily Bulletin)
(Feb 10, WASHINGTON, DC) - An imprisoned former Border Patrol agent who was beaten in his sleep has injuries that are more serious than previously reported, said a congressman on Friday.

Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., met with Ignacio Ramos, who was convicted in March for the nonfatal shooting of a Mexican drug smuggler. Ramos is serving an 11-year sentence at Yazoo Correctional Complex in Mississippi.

Tancredo said he was astonished at the injuries on Ramos' body, which he said did not coincide with reports from the prison earlier this week that described his injuries as "minor."

"His bruises were deep and severe," Tancredo said. "His arm, chest and back are black and blue with broken blood vessels on his arm. It was terrible."

Ramos was beaten Saturday night by roughly a half-dozen inmates who recognized him from a TV show that aired shortly before 10 p.m. He was pulled from his cell, which remains unlocked until midnight, by the inmates and kicked repeatedly by the men who were wearing steel-toed boots. The boots are issued to inmates for their daily work, according to the prison's Web site.

Ramos did not see a doctor until Wednesday, Tancredo said.

The prison's warden, Constance Reese, did not return phone calls for comment.

According to a prison press release, "Ramos was evaluated by medical staff at the institution, who determined he had sustained some bruises and abrasions."

Charles Smith, a spokesman for the institution, also said in the release that Ramos' injuries "were minor in nature."

"Inmate Ramos was subsequently placed in the Special Housing Unit pending a thorough investigation of the incident. He will remain in the Special Housing Unit until the conclusion of this investigation."

Prison officials have interviewed six inmates associated with the assault, Tancredo added. The congressman said he is working to move the former agent to a facility where Ramos will be safe.

Representatives of Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R-Huntington Beach, visited the facility with Tancredo. Tara Setmayer, Rohrabacher's communications director, said she was astonished at the injuries Ramos sustained.

Setmayer said Reese refused to allow her, or Tancredo, to view photos taken of Ramos the night of the incident or any documents regarding the ongoing investigation into the case.

"To underestimate the seriousness of the assault on (Ramos) is a disingenuous characterization by the prison officials," Setmayer said. "He clearly is the victim of a vicious attack. And the ineptitude demonstrated by prison officials with such a high-profile prisoner is troubling."

Ramos and fellow former agent Jose Compean were convicted of shooting Osbaldo Aldrete-Davila in the buttocks and violating his civil rights. Compean was sentenced to 12 years in an Ohio federal prison.

I'm personally sick of having to translate spanish signs for my family and hearing about all the negatives coming with illegal aliens and no politicians doing anything. I want Minuteman chapters established in every state (www.minutemanhq.com) and i want to be able to do something about getting ramos and campeon pardoned and the border secured. I'm sick of hearing about "poor families" who broke the law by coming here and about the negative effects of the raids by ICE... i love the ICE raids and there needs to be more of them.. put up a fence like they have around Buckingham Palace (full security) and increase the border patrol and release the agents. Send the illegals back to their hometown and demand that our government and businesses stop aiding and abetting illegals (since it is against THE LAW TO AID AND ABBET YET OUR GOVERNMENT DOES IT).. i'm not a racist, i'm dating a native american and my dads from England, my two best friends are black and mexican.i'm FED UP! anyone else?

The very wise elected officials of the USA long ago determined that immigration to the US be permitted based on judicously determined quotas, by which every country would be allocated an amount of people which could apply for immigration, and upon complying with the conditions and applicable regulations, they would be welcomed into the U.S. My own parents entered that way, and were given documents attesting to their right to enter and participate and assimilate into a mixture of the cultures of the world..They went to their graves praising and blessing the U.S.A.for permitting them entry, never denouncing, demanding, demonstrating or in anyway demeaning or ridiculingthis country..Now the balance of our population based on the countries of the world, has been grossly skewed/distorted disproportionatly. No one really has accurate figures, but I have heard that between 20 and 30 percent of our population is composed of Hispanics, and probably half entered illegaly. To continue is ridiculous!!!!

I'd like to know how people that have legally immigrated feel about illegal aliens? We all know where the citizens and illegal aliens stand, but I'd like to hear from those of you who've gone through the proper channels (by the way, thank you - glad you're here!)...

I have tried every phrase imaginable to get tip lines or crime stoppers numbers in Arkansas and found nothing for my county. I need the number for Hot Spring County, not to be confused with the town Hot Springs. I don't care what some of your answers say about the question, or what a scum bag I may be. They obviously do drugs and are offended by the question. I am beginning to think that Arkansas doesn't find illegal drugs important or I would have found the numbers needed myself. For the sake of myself and children I prefer to remain anonymous. You never know if the police are involved in tipping offenders off, and nearly every phone has caller ID.

Inside the USA is believed to be a country, but for those outside the USA is a Continent.
A continent that you can divide in:
North, Central, West Indies, and South
or...
in Hispanic-America and Anglo-America, and/or French-america
America is from Alaska to Patagonia, and that's it.

Slap right on the forhid, of course you see it as forhead today but just think if they had said all you people speak like this from now on or get the hell out of country.
At Plymouth Rock, I am quite sure one brave after listening to some white dude try to explain he was lost and out of food with some gibberish and hand signals, looked back at another and said" what and the hell does it mean when a guy raises just one finger and points it skwyard. Great Fathers sake, you would think they would of learned the language before they came here." At least the last group of traders did know how to speak some before they tried to cheat us out of furs for blue buttons and gave all our women the clap. Give these guys some squash and fish and maybe they will just go back home."

I moved to England and changed my name and surname when I got my new citizenship and passport from UK,

Question: it is possible to get a new SSN in America, since I have a new passport from other country and a new name?

I have a job offer there and I told them I don't have SSN yet, so my empolyer will send me an application to apply for a number, but will the SS Office realize I am the same person from 5 years ago? How?
