America is a continent. From Canada to the Argentinian Patagonia's. The United States took the name of the continent and add it of America. When they said here in America they are wrong because they are United States. Every country in the continent is an American. Mexico real name is Estados Unidos Mexicanos and we don't say welcome to America". For the rest of the world there are only five continents America, Asia, Africa, Europe, Oceania and you can see it in the Olympic rings, just five who represent each continent. In United States they teach in the school that there are 7.

"America" is the nickname for the country, The United States of America.
America isn't a continent. North America is. South America is too.
"The Americas" refers to both North and South America.
What's refered to as "Central America" is actually the southern portion of North America.
The name comes from an Italian explorer who was doing his thing around the same time that Columbus was. I think his name was Amerigo, but you might want to do some research on that.

Look at a map smart guy...there is no continent on there that is called America. There is North America, there is South America, there is Central America, but there is no continent that is just "America". The term America is short for United States of America, which is a country. Nice try at bashing the U.S, but looks like it failed just as badly as your other attempts.

Most countries consider there to be Americas as two continents (North and South) and America as a country.
What do linquistics matter? Even if it were a continent it wouldn't give citizens of one country on that continent any rights to be in a different country on that continent.

America is a continent divided in two sub-continents (North adn South America, I don't know how to call Central America).
Then you have countries in those sub-continents.

Well i Europe now-a-days America refers to the US. Other people that live in America (the continent) refer to it as the continent. For example in Spanish speaking coutries the US is Los Estados Unidos. 100 of years ago it refered to the continent as a whole as well.

The term applies to both.
North America is a continent. South America is a contient.
The term "America" can apply to either or both continents.
The United States of America is a country. But that country often has its name shortened to just "America". Much as the United States of Brazil often has its name shortened to just "Brazil".
