Slap right on the forhid, of course you see it as forhead today but just think if they had said all you people speak like this from now on or get the hell out of country.
At Plymouth Rock, I am quite sure one brave after listening to some white dude try to explain he was lost and out of food with some gibberish and hand signals, looked back at another and said" what and the hell does it mean when a guy raises just one finger and points it skwyard. Great Fathers sake, you would think they would of learned the language before they came here." At least the last group of traders did know how to speak some before they tried to cheat us out of furs for blue buttons and gave all our women the clap. Give these guys some squash and fish and maybe they will just go back home."

I can speak the old tongue as I grew up surrounded by it, of Eire, and not some bastard Englishmans spawns attempt to suppress it.
As for the 14th amendment, it is quite possibly the most controversial amendment of all. No I take it back it is the most. From its many beginings to its reinterpretations and politcal shenanigans it had more drafts and rewrtten portions than any other.
I spent over 20,000 words upon it and to this day I am still not satisfied with the my original, even thought I got a superior marking for it, as the more scholars opinions I read the more I am convinced it should not even be in that Document.

What I was trying to address was the fality ad the possible consequences of saying everyone in US must speak English. the englsih language may be one of worlds most used but in every region it has its own peculiarities. It is a rich language and constantly in flux and it owes by assimulation its beauty and ability to adapt to an ever constantly changing world. Laws cannot mold its usage.
As for the fair teacher fine, and your insult is accepted as from its source,"Came the worlds wrongs, the mouth of a woman unadorned, by beauty or grace, led poor Adam from God's face!

LOL. Great point.

But the new Americans came as conquerors, not seeking to become part of the existing community. So, maybe the rules are different for conquerors.

If I moved to a country that spoke that way, I'd learn it. It might even be fun.

We got our land the same way every country got its land, so the part about the Natives isn't really relevant.

Lakota - I appreciate your point of view. Let's learn from it, though.

The great white fathers of this nation spoketh lies, and I really don't care howeth the whites speaketh their English, it's not as attractive sounding to me as Lakota. As for the rest of your question about "Plymouth Rock"------those "braves" were stupid, they should have killed the Pilgrims instead of trying to figure out their English language. Heh.

T'would ha' prevented the blatherings that thou hast uttered. 'Pon peering at thy scribbles for 'lo more time than t'was needed, t'is evident that thou hast no knowledge of the proper tongue. Hie thee to thy schoolmarm and learn afore thou maketh a greater fool of thyself than already done.
