Immigration - July 2006

[Selected]: All categories Politics & Government Immigration

Way, way back during the 1860s and 1870s, the US built something called a transcontinental railroad. This railroad was built mostly by Chinese immigrants from the west and Irish immigrants from the east. For the most part, they didn't bring huge families, expect free healthcare or education, wave their national flags, and whine like little bitches. I'd pick tomatoes a hundred times over compared to laying railroad track through the Sierra Nevadas.

Come to think of it, when the Irish had their little potato famine in the 1840s, alot of them moved to the US. They had to come through an immigration facility called Ellis Island, where they were herded like cattle, poked and prodded, and could be sent back for various reasons. They worked hard at manual labor, eked out a living in slums, were called every name in the book, got no government support, and what happened? They toughed it out, grew a pair, worked hard and truly helped build the country.

And they did it legally.

I'm tired of people coming in illegally. Anyone who wants to can sneak into America. There should be a big wall and a huge border patrol. Right?

For one day a group of american white familys mother father children grandparents will go to california and pick tomatos supervised by the farmer and they must produce the same yield as the mexican pickers.
Or work in a chicken processing plant or they can just swim the rio grand climb the border fence and walk for 3 days in the desert with there family and avoid gun happy vigilanties assuming your mexican.
Any takers?

Some cities openly proclaim that they'll be 'sanctuaries' for illegal aliens, and that their economies would collapse without illegals. Do you buy that story, do you approve of that idea?

Some High School guy was living illegally for a good portion of his child life i think i heard since he was 3 and he recently graduated and got a scholarship for one of the top Universitys but he can't go because of his Illegal status. What do you guys think about kids that have lived Illegaly all their lives and are actually doing something good but can't do anything about it?

I think these kids need a chance they're usually some of the smarter kids wanting to do something about Immigrations laws.

All I have heard is the Immigrants and what all the tax money does for them. Ok well lets ask this. If a man/woman comes to this Country and wants to make a better life for themselfs and there family! We Amercians want to bit*h about it.
So why is it ok for the Tax money to go to Prisons? Would you rather have your tax money help some better themselves, or to keep up people in Prisons? or Wars? you know this is something that everyone disagrees on in one way or another. That is why everything is open for debate in this Country.

I believe that anyone who's ancestors came from a different country should be deported and only those who are truly native should be allowed to stay.

1. Secure our boarders so people come across in a legal and orderly fashion.
2. Seriously fine business who hire undocumented, illegal aliens.
3. Deport and make their country pay for the expenses for anyone here illegally who commits a crime.
4. Work through diplomatic means (sanctions, etc) with each country to make sure they are working from their end to stop illegal immagration.
5. Enforce all the laws already on the books.
6. Develop and implement a plan to make those who are here illegally but who have been good citizens legal behing all the rest who are here legally.

Hi,

I am waiting for I-485 dates to be current (I-140 got approved). In the meanwhile I am planning to go back to India for good.
1. Can my employer still continue to file for my Green Card even if I join some other company in India?
2. If yes, can I complete all GC formalities from India
3. To maintain GC status, what are the rules, like how often would I need to visit US, etc?

Thanks!

Cubans who came to the U.S. were automatically classified as refugees, granted permanent residency status and given help to settle in the U.S., under the Cuba Adjustment Act.

But then...

In 1991, tens of thousands of Haitians fled death squads risking their lives on the ocean voyage, U.S. immigration officials intercepted the asylum seekers and sent them back.

The history of the U.S. is riddled with hostility to various immigrant groups--though only during certain waves of immigration.

Until the post-Civil War period, the U.S. had no immigration laws. The racist Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882--passed after an industrial strike wave--was part of an attempt to craft a deliberate immigration policy of keeping out “undesirables.”

In the early 1900s, a wave of anti-Japanese violence led to a 1907 agreement barring Japanese laborers--a deal made after newspapers like the San Francisco Chronicle warned of an invasion of "bumptious, disagreeable and unreliable" Japanese.

The U.S. carried out mass deportations of Mexicans during the Great Depression, and in a 1954 program actually called Operation Wettback in 1954. Today, both documented and undocumented immigrants in the U.S. face the uncertainty of random raids and deportations, the threat of separation from their families and increased exploitation on the job.

And forget about all men b

The reason many illegal aliens come here illegally is because they cannot pass the background checks, and or the medical exams. Americans have sponsered many programs through private donations to help poor immigrants migrate here legally. I have friends that have gone through the immigration process, and other than the medical exams, and background checks, they are only required to learn English, and our laws. Many of the programs sponsor GED programs so that these workers can also be skilled. There are far more reasons to migrate legally, then there are reasons to migrate illegally. Legal immigrants qualify for grants to open businesses, buy homes, and establish themselves in America. In many cases they are even given free college educations, so I am not buying the illegals plight. Illegals are the criminal element that can not get across the border legally, so they further criminalize themselves here in America. The American dream is handed to immigrants, not illegals

Without illegals working in the US how do you think America would survive at the pace it is going with homes being built and the profit it is making for our economy?

If you don’t want Mexicans walking into this country, make sure no one is offering them jobs. You could even pass a law about it. You could even enforce the law. Don’t blame them.
