I'm not saying I agree with all the points I am making here, just listing them as I see it.
1. Securing both the canadian and mexican borders costs millions. Who will end up paying for that? We will.
2. Fining businesses will push businesses away and you lose money. A lot of these businesses are also strong supporters of the Bush administration. They aren't gonna fine their "friends."
3. Deporting millions of people will cost millions because it is not cheap to fly everyone all over the world. Not everyone is from Mexico and we would have to pay for their trips.
4. Some countries don't care or don't want to stop illegal immigration here in the states. It's our problem, not theirs so we can't sanction them.
4. There isn't enough man-power to enforce the laws. This is why Bush had to bring in the National Guards for patrolling.

Wouldn't you need money to increase the borders' securities? That'll raise taxes, everyone'll get pissed at the government, and then people'll start complaining?
Many businesses require low labor costs to drive their businesses. Some that need a high amount of manual labor can't survive with higher costs. Without the immigrants, the US economy would collapse.
It's just not practical for all the illegal immigrants to be simply kicked out of the US, or even stopped from going in. Illegal immigrants will keep working in the US, coming into the US, no matter what the government will do. Hey, look at the bright side, though. At least your country's good enough that people are eager to get into it. Wouldn't you feel worse if people were flocking to get out of it?

Those are not the only issues - the main problem is the Visas being issued - how many people should be allowed to work in the US and for how long and what are the conditions, etc. Plus the INS department is not taking a firm footing on some of the policies relating to this issue and they have sanctions that contradict each other

Well, that's probably because there's bleeding hearts and business majors that scoff at the laws, and between em they get a lot of lobbying done to soften down the border laws. When they start talking about 'the global economy', part of that translates to 'Mexico' in pol-speak. A lot of people out there have worked for YEARS to blur those lines, what do you think you're doing, insisting that our borders be enforced? LOLOL

Because we have benefited from their cheap labor. Food prices are lower, housing cost are lower, etc. If all illegals left today there would not be enough Americans to replace them. Price increases would be shocking.
Businesses, who are not boarder agents, are not trained to know if an ID is fraud. It not a businesses' job to control the boarder. That's why we pay taxes and hire Board Guards.
If your neighbor is visiting England and is fined $1,000 for shoplifting are you going to pay their fine? Why should "their country" pay for their crimes?
We should have "short term" work permits (one to two years) and require they have a fee deducted from their pay check to pay for the services available to them. After their time expires on their permit they would be required to return to their country for a minimum amount of weeks.

It's easier than that...
1. Shoot to kill on the border.
2. Round up and deport all illegals to Mexico via train.
3. Audit every corporation using illegals for tax evasion.
* for you idiots who don't comprehend english, I said ILLEGALS, not legal Mexican immigrants. If you came here legally, come over to my place and we'll BBQ :)
If you are Illegal, come over so that I can drag you to the train.

That's just it, they fully understand it and just don't care. They have NO respect for our laws and constantly try to justify their criminal actives and cloud the issue with numerous others things that have nothing to do with their breaking the law. They will always bring in history and try screaming racist to get people to listen to them. If anything, it is they who are the racists for their attack on those of us who want to uphold the law and deport these worthless criminals.
