Clinton and company used to talk about a 'slippery slope', the point in an argument where the only way you're headed is downhill. My stand on the issue is thus: I want to see illegal immigration stopped dead in its' tracks. I think it's a negative trend for america, if you wanna emigrate, there's a right way to do it, if you're wrong, either get right, or get OUT. Pretty straightforward, on that one. This half-status,half-baked, half-assed, dual-something-or-other is messy. Our immigration laws and enforcement need to mirror that of other countries, and adhere to some sort of common standard. That's only fair to those that emigrate lawfully, as well as the people that have always only called America home.

Some politicians are made of the type of fibre that will gladly sell the rug right out from under your feet, and then have the gall to turn around and present you with the bill for services rendered.
Well, America's getting 'serviced', all right, by those that have starry-eyed visions of god-knows-what, but it doesn't have an awful lot to do with preserving the Union, which is sort of what they signed on for etc. I'd call the immigration issue a Big Problem, something that needs to be professionally and thoroughly handled. The sooner that's taken care of, the better off the country will be.

You tell ME how you feel about the issue....if someone obtains employment in america illegally, regardless of whether they then end up paying taxes, how do YOU feel about them even being in your country? Do you support lawbreakers? Is getting a job under false credentials an illegal act? Identity theft is rampant, and I would be MONEY that we'll find that Mexico's a hot-bed of ID theft against americans. How would you like YOUR social security number sold to somebody for 10 bucks? That's how ugly all of this has gotten, and a Great Way to get a handle on the problem is to start by securing at least our mexican border.

Or, do you feel that americans, having worked and lived and paid taxes all their lives, should just step aside and make way for waves of 'newcomers', despite the clever legal(and illegal)antics of the newcomers? How many people ya want in america, 400 million, 600 million? Your choice, your vote...

If you go to the IRS web site FAQ* you will see:
"What is an ITIN used for?
ITINs are for federal tax reporting only, and are not intended to serve any other purpose. An ITIN does not authorize work in the U.S. ..."

We are a land of laws! If people think illegals should have rights then they should try and change the law! But for now it is illegal for someone to work who did not come hear the right way.

First of all, that is only federal taxes and doesn't support schools and health care.

However, there are visa overstayers who pay all taxes.

The problem is that we subsidize the vast bulk of education, health care and other costs of services for poor people in this country even when they pay all taxes for their income group. That is why we, like other countries, limit the number of poor people who come.

People who come in numbers above the amount we allow are stealing those services. With it costing $18,000 to educate a child for one year, those costs are large even on an individual basis for any illegal immigrant family. When you multiply that by 12 to 20 million, you can easily see why schools and health services in areas where illegals concentrate are failing.

We can't properly serve our own, and until we can, we have no 'excess' to share. Foreign children don't come before our own, or shouldn't.

That's the most overlooked issue in the debate. I have never worked with an (alleged - I suspected but never knew for sure) illegal that didn't pay taxes.

I worked in the restaurant industry through college and a little bit after, so I'm pretty sure they were illegal, but they were also some of the hardest working people I've worked with.

All of them got paychecks and all of them had taxes withdrawn.

The people you are talking about are still here illegally. People here steal American identities and sell the information to the illegals to try to keep them from getting caught. I live in a town that is full of illegals taking all the jobs. If you live here you have to be American Indian, Mexican, or a student to get a job. And I agree that they should have to learn English. Why should my children have to learn Spanish to live in America. If we went there, we'd have to learn their language, they should have to do the same.

They should be kicked out, with the rest of the illegals. See- I hate to educate you too much, but what you are describing is ILLEGAL. They have stolen someones number, and are using it to pay their taxes and pretend they are legal. They are identity thieves, in other words. Do you really want someone who is willing to break that many laws to be allowed to stay? I sure dont.

If they are here illegally, then they need to be sent home.... I do not care if they pay taxes or not. The issue for me is the legality of it. Business owners need to be held responsible as well.

Question still remains ... why are they here illegally? Why can't they apply legally as everybody else has to do? What's so special about the illegal immigrants ... are we to pat them on the back for paying taxes, those who do? They still haven't had any background checks ... we don't know what diseases they have, if any ... They are still here ILLEGALLY ... got it?

What about them? I pay taxes too - and it doesn't make me above the law!!

The can pay a bazillion dollars in taxes, and still get deported legally! That is the only amnesty I see as fair.
