Would it be such a bad idea to make four years of military service an option for someone caught as an illegal? I mean why put them in an overcrowded prison for tax payers to support if they are able bodied enough to serve in our military? Face it, we have to help Iraq rebuild their country. I don't forsee an end to this Middle East situation anytime soon, but would it be so bad to have people be productive and work for their citizenship, instead of skulking around the law all their lives? I'm not saying that four years of service should be the only thing that guarantees them citizenship, but it could be included as part of a fast track program that combines all of the other current requirements for citizenship. Of course they could be given the choice to serve or sit in prison. I'm not saying we should force someone to do this, but rather have this as an option so that a person could work for a living legally as well as earn their citizenship.

I keep hearing about the poor kids running bare foot in the streets, hungry in the middle of the night.
Well, if you really want to see something like that you don't have to cross the border. Just get some whowhos and go into your local ghettos. You will find children of all color running the streets bare foot and hungry in the middle of the night. That is until the police come in and impose the curfews. Almost all of these people are Americans forced into low paying jobs, because they have to under bid the illegals for work. While the illegals are able to get millions of dollars in grants and loans from your local community to help them get established.
3/4 of America's people live below the poverty level. Which also means that the mass majority of Americans have little to no education.
When are we going to start helping them? If you want to be a good person help your fellow man in need, not those who premediatedly committed crimes to get across the border

Do you think the 'illegal immigration' problem is really a 'politicians taking money under the table' problem?

Perot tapped into the immigration debate back when NAFTA was being passed... he knew that this issue would arise and was the only candidate to challenge it. NAFTA was passed against the will of the people, Ross Perot knew at the time that the public opposed it by nearly 2 to 1 (of the 60 percent who have an opinion). Apart from some meager rhetoric and a few interventions by Ross Perot, that fact was irrelevant to the presidential campaign.

Bush is weak on this issue.

If the House and Senate pass a border security bill and it goes to Bush (who clearly doesn't really want border security) and he pulls out that part which got support only as a compromise with others, but passes the other parts, then what? He could pick and chose what HE wants to leave in.

I've supported him on a lot of things, but I don't support him on immigration. He wants cheap labor for big business, period.

Also, this would apply to ANY President, of course.

I know a family who the wife, and 2 chidren were born Canadian. She married a US citizen. They tried to get naturalized when they were first here, and had saved the money (aprox. $1,000 for 3 people) for all the forms, got all the medicals, pics, etc, and everytime they went to file, something else was added that they needed to do. In the meantime, immigrations would not take the money until everything was done. So, being a family of 5, they fell on hard times, and ended up using the money for necessities. My question is this; I heard somewhere that there is a law that once you've lived here for either 7 or 10 yrs, you can automatically become a citizen. Anybody know if there's any truth in that? Also, is there a way to get a legal pic ID done (for travel purposes within the US) w/o a social? SHe was told there wasn't, but I would guess there is, I just don't know what it is. Any ideas? And no, she's not really from Mexico, and she's not taking anyone's job!

What role should communities/cities/counties/states play in forestalling the trend of illegal hiring? Can citizens bring suit against businesses if it's found that they have illegal employees?
Would revoking some business licenses start heading things back in the right direction?

It's obvious big business is not obeying the law. The illegals don't know how to read English. No hiring of illegals=No illegals. Let the churches and ministries do their jobs. They are more compasionate and fair to these people.

According to a post I JUST read.......all those from Mexico are "genetic criminals". The reasoning they said was BECAUSE they (the Mexicans) entered illegally and thus will continue their life of crime.
Do you agree.....or disagree?

The law has been passed and ALL the illegals are ordered back to their respective countries. How is this done? Who organizes the round up?

What if they say no? Does that lead to chaos and horribile ramifications?

Please tell me HOW......we can accomplish this goal AND at the same time keep civil disturbance to a minimum?

Please no ridiculous answers.......just one good answer would make me change MY stance in a heartbeat and may do the same for someone else.
