You sure will have a problem unless you have a very good reason for it. However having said this, I beliieve that you may be able to get into Mexico and Canada with a one-way ticket. Of course it goes without saying that if you are a U.S. citizen and came in on such a ticket that they would let you in. (Hope they don't send you to Guantanamo, tho)

No, if you have a student Visa. You will if you have a visitors visa!
And yes, that is exactly what they will think.
That is why the US Embassies will not give visa's in many countries to women between 18 and 40 who are not married or have huge ties to the country!

when i moved to the US i wanted to buy a 1 way, but my travel agent advised me to buy a 2 way because they are cheaper. But that was before9/11.

you have to have a visa first. and on the application, you have to fill date of entry, and date you plan to leave. and also proof that you will buy the ticket, like booking it.
