He should have applied to stay while the visa was still good. Right now he's illegal. I'd see an immigration lawyer as soon as possible.

it is unlikely he will be granted another visa without being deported. and then he will probably be denied coming back because he abused it. get a lawyer if you have that kind of money, maybe you can get an exception because he was in fear for his life upon returning.

if hes single marriage would be ideal.other wise he will have to go back and apply again from his country of origin, better make the decession, before he is found out and deported
