The Constitution says States may not "make any Thing but gold and silver Coin a Tender in Payment of Debts" (Article I Section 10). So if, say, I have some money to receive from the State of Florida (as a result of a lawsuit that I win against it for example), does that mean that I can demand that they pay me in gold and silver coins?

I know this is absurd, but that's what the Constitution seems to say, isn't it?

Do you think it should be required to show up? I just read a bill that passed in the senate and only 21 people voted. Where were the other 79? Does it seem like a waste of tax money? Or am I missing something?

Thomas Jefferson served as President Washington's Secretary of State. His strict interpretation of the Constitution and egalitarian ideasroved to be a perfect contrast to Alexander Hamilton. However, when Thomas Jefferson became President of the United States he was forced to adapt to his new role. This role caused an internal conflict within Jefferson as he was forced to abandon some of his principles in order to be an effective leader.
Identify some of these conflicts in Jefferson's administration. Give examples of domestic issues he faced as well as foreign policy issues. Did the decisions Jefferson made create a positive or negative legacy for jefferson?

....i know this is a lot for one question but just tell me as much as u can thanx.

The democrats are acting like a bunch of know it alls, what is going to happen if we pull out of this war, then the terrorist start striking here, and it can be traced back to Iraq.... then we are all screwed.

And don't answer, well by invading Iraq we likely caused more terrorist than we captured/killed......whats done is done....so does pulling out now make sense....we broke it, so now we should stay and fix it.....

but back to the question at hand, how can the Democrats act like such know it alls when first of all they are only a SLIGHT majority, and secondly aren't they setting themselves up for a big problem if we get attacked on our home land???? Lets face the fact, if a democrat was president this war still would have happened, and it is probably likely the republicans would be bitching and complaining---am i right????

So, what are the significant difference in the functions performed by the Senate and the House.

I am NOT looking for the stats, such as 2 senators per state, versus Reps. based on population, length of terms...etc. etc.

I am trying to figure out what exactly it is that Senators do, and what it is that the House of Representatives do.......or are expected to do, that makes them uniquely different when compared to each other.

I'm curious to know if someone can purchase a new mobile home in the US and have it transported to Ontario? If so, are the fees at the Canadian Boarder similar to those of importing a car (based on Value)?
Thanks!

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- 19 Republicans joined Democrats on Friday in passing a two-sentence resolution denouncing President Bush's plan to boost troop levels in Iraq.
House passes resolution opposing Bush's Iraq policy 246-182.
"The president has gone against the advice of his own generals and the will of the American public," said James Thurber, a Republican. "I think the president is out of touch with respect to what the American people want. It shows in the polls."
get him gone. he is the head of this corrupt administration. if you don't believe me that it's corrupt, look back at how many Republican leaders were in some sort of scandal. Money=power. Money+power=corruption. give a man an inch and he'll take a mile. Give Foley a boy, and he'll run 50 miles. with the boy.

the war cost is how many trillion of dollars now?
they said its enough to have built 35k schools in the US. Gotta love it. the american public is screwed becuz bush didn't like that some world leader tried killin dad!

Liberals say Republicans lost control because of Hurricane Katrina. Ray Nagin was the mayor of New Orleans. He should have done more to warn people about the coming disaster. Liberals say it's because of the Iraq War, but Democrats have no intention of removing all U.S. troops from Iraq. Was it because of the economy? Are people really living worse than when Bill Clinton was President? Why did Republicans lose?
