Not National Service.

Why the hell should the senior NCO's at training establishments have their careers put in jeopardy by the kind of immoral scum you'd be looking at sending(under duress) to them?

Why can't we go back to the good old days when teenagers didn't have any 'rights' but policemen, householders, shopkeepers, teachers and adults in general did. When parents parented and enforced some semblence of social ettiquette(respect for your elders, other peoples property and the law would be a start).

The only reason that these little horrors are out of control is because they feel untouchable because they're 'only15' and they take the example position of;
"you're an adult so you'll get nicked-besides you can't prove it was me that put the window through on your car-so p*** off!"
(usually accompanied by general sniggering, lighting cigarettes and closing ranks of about 5-10 other toe-rags).

The REALLY annoying thing is that when you call the police they arrive (eventually) and then tell you that the teen who's just knackered the family car is right and they can't do anything-but thanks for the cuppa. Not that I'm blaming the police-they're as frustrated as the rest of us.

So. Never mind the liberal, tree hugging, do-gooders and their soap boxes, let's have some common sense, sanity and safety back on our streets.

And that doesn't start with National Service it starts at home with under 5's, in our schools and on our streets.

We need to bring back some form of discipline. If you do not have a job on leaving school you should be sent to a project similar to National Service. Payment can be made for the three years. It would teach not only respect but life skills, teamwork and how to look after yourself in a civilised society. All should be taught to shop, cook, drive and accept a moral standard. The sad thing is we may now be too late.

If you are referring to USA: in addition to military and Civil Service options there is National Health Service Corps. These are things one volunteers into.

If you are referring to the draft, some people just are not suitable, were not raised with decency and respect for themselves and others and if taxpayers are going to be teaching them right from wrong what may be left for them is prison systems if not getting the rewards from society they see others getting by participation in the social contract doesn't get their attention.

Not unless we can turn the clock back 50 years with the same brutality we had back then.....
Forcing our youth into the Armed services would be a total liability we would end up with a undisciplined rabble to busy smokin weed to care about what's happening around them.....Basically last US draft Vietnam...

I think young people do need help, however, I would not condone a military service to use the young people to fight the politicians wars.

I think that is the GREATEST idea EVER!

EDIT:

I don't think it needs to be Armed Forces as an only option. There should be programs out there to integrate educational opportunities with government service. Our youth need to be more positively politically active as well as learn more about their national government. What better way than to serve in that government.

I have a better idea, bring back the guy who said "he who is first in my father's kingdom serves". I'll give you a hint, he wasn't a member of Saudi royal family.

Fair enough, if people could differenciate between national service and corporal punishment.
