Thomas Jefferson served as President Washington's Secretary of State. His strict interpretation of the Constitution and egalitarian ideasroved to be a perfect contrast to Alexander Hamilton. However, when Thomas Jefferson became President of the United States he was forced to adapt to his new role. This role caused an internal conflict within Jefferson as he was forced to abandon some of his principles in order to be an effective leader.
Identify some of these conflicts in Jefferson's administration. Give examples of domestic issues he faced as well as foreign policy issues. Did the decisions Jefferson made create a positive or negative legacy for jefferson?

Thomas Jefferson was really one of the "snakes" of our founding fathers. Washington was the figurehead, Franklin was the brain, and Jefferson the psychoreligious wild-card. Jefferson believed himself to be very holy (he was so holy it was ok for him to concieve children with his slave women then enslave his own son or daughter). We would have been better off without him.
