So, what are the significant difference in the functions performed by the Senate and the House.

I am NOT looking for the stats, such as 2 senators per state, versus Reps. based on population, length of terms...etc. etc.

I am trying to figure out what exactly it is that Senators do, and what it is that the House of Representatives do.......or are expected to do, that makes them uniquely different when compared to each other.

They are the two bodies that represent our countries legislature, as such they function similarly. Their difference lies primarily in that the house is supposed to represent the people and the Senate is supposed to represent the states. The major difference is that the VP is to preside over the senate and cast any deciding vote.

The Senate was originally meant to be more insulated from public pressure than the House. That greater insulation was theoretically a way of ensuring that the Senate would be more deliberative -- prone to thinking about issues with greater depth. This perception of the Senate is also reflected in the fact that the Senate allows for more debate than the House.

The major difference is that the House of Representatives control the money and the Senate controls the appointment of Judges.

they do the same thing - but one is meant to grant equal representation to all states (2 senators to each state) while the other is meant to allow representation by population (states with a larger population have more representatives in the house thus providing greater representation of their population). This is known as a bicameral legislature (2 houses).
