in a philosophical sense. Is it know thy enemy?

'can' and 'will' have different meanings. 'can' encompasses some situtations, but 'will' encompasses all situations. In other words, 'will' negates 'can'.

Not only that, but saying 'anything you say will be used against you' is ridiculous, because no one would use something against you in court JUST because you said it after the Miranda Warning. It also has to be meaningful.

Does anyone have clarification on the use of "Will" in this sentence (or any similar sentence that has can and will together). Maybe it's just an english idiom, but then why is it in a legal warning?

I'd like to see some of the jingoists on here prove that America is more free than any other country in the world. Prove it. I don't think many of them have ever been to another country. I believe about 75% of the world's nations are just about as free or more than the USA. I think the USA is actually falling very far down the list of free countries actually.

I'd like to hear reasons. Don't list the usually hellholes that are the exceptions like Haiti, Iran, Libya or North Korea, let's hear comparisons to France, Sweden, Barbados, Bolivia, Thailand, Ghana, Kenya, not places like the Dominican Republic where you took Christian youth group missions to the poorest parts of that country.

America is not the freest country in the world, it is probably much closer to fascism than many people think.

Corpsmen, pronounced Coremen, are navy people who are trained as battlefield medics. many of them are conscious objectors. under international law Corpsmen are not supposed to carry arms nor to engage in fighting the enemy. they wear a Red Cross in a white back ground on their helmet to identify them and supposedly to show that they are not Marines but rather angles of mercy for the wounded men. I have read them being insulted here on answers but I cannot recall any Marine in the 'Nam ever cursing them out or refusing to allow them to save their life. Of course now that we no longer obey international rules it is fair game to pop battlefield medics since they are armed and we do not obey the rules of land warfare so our enemy does not have to obey them either. I would much rather have a trained corpsman who was trained as a doctor come to save me then some semi Marine with a rifle who took Marine training to fight do so. When i need help I don't need another Marine to do it.

What do you do that supports our troops? I give bood every 8 weeks, I send at least one package a month to a unit that I don't know, my daughter writes thank you letters every other day, plus a lot of other things. If everyone is so quick to claim that people either love or hate the military, what do you do to show that you support our troops? The reason this is in politics is because people on here assume that Liberals do nothing to boost our troops morale. I want to know what you do!

A few weeks ago I received a ticket in the mail for apparently not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign. I had not been stopped by an officer but rather had been captured on videotape. It really creeped me out, especially given that the stop sign is not at a busy intersection nor had I any clue I was being videotaped.

I want to fight it because I think that, with the exception of times when it's necessary to protect lives (like at busy intersections where people run red lights) I think covertly filming people is wrong and an invasion of privacy.

What would be the best way to fight this?

Do people realize the gun is only as good as the shooter, hence why a cop with a 9mm will more than likely win in a shootout with a thug with automatic weapons. Cops trained acurate shooters who can shoot and kill with far less effort than some thug who employs the spray and pray technique

People need to stop feeding the homeless like they do with the bears and alligators .
Stop feeding them and they move on and go away .

Set up a place for them to eat and they mill around all day within a few miles of the free food .

They start lining up 30 minutes before the food is even ready to be served .

I say keep moving the food further and further out into the country and draw them away from the city .
In a few weeks you could clean up the city of these smelly people always begging for spare change .

Militarily Challenged? or Phony Soldiers.

Has NOTHING to do with the Vets in the service..

NORTHWEST CRACKDOWN ON FAKE VETERANS IN “OPERATION STOLEN VALOR”
Phony Vets Scam more than $1.4 Million and Damage Image of Honorable Veterans
U.S. Attorney Jeffrey C. Sullivan today announced some of the results of “Operation Stolen Valor,” a year long effort to investigate and prosecute those who lie about their military service for financial gain or other reasons. Sullivan and Doug Carver, Special Agent in Charge of the Veteran’s Affairs Office of Inspector General detailed eight prosecutions in the Veteran’s Affairs Northwest Region in 2007.

“As a Vietnam Veteran, and the father of a decorated Army officer currently serving, I feel very keenly the damage done by Jesse Macbeth and these other fakes,” said Jeff Sullivan, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Washington. “Macbeth’s lies fueled hostility to our servicemen in Iraq and here at home. Those who falsely claim medals for heroism, cheapen the recognition of our true war heroes.”

“The ‘phony war hero phenomenon’ plagues the American landscape and tarnishes the service of thousands of veterans who have served honorably. It strangles VA resources from providing critical care and benefits to deserving veterans returning from war,” said Douglas J. Carver, Special Agent in Charge of the VA Office of Inspector General, Western Field Office. “It all boils downs to this: these phonies submit claims to the VA for compensation and medical benefits they are not entitled to, and it takes away valuable resources from those who are entitled.”

In a dozen cases under investigation in the northwest, the fraud totals more than $1.4 million. Eight of the cases have been publicly filed and are in various stages of being adjudicated:

*Jesse Macbeth, 23, Tacoma, Washington, sentenced today in connection with his fraudulent claims of military service. Macbeth sought medical benefits claiming to suffer from PTSD related to service in Iraq and Afghanistan, in fact, Macbeth was discharged from the Army about a month after he joined. Macbeth never traveled outside the U.S. with the Army. Macbeth duped reporters, claiming to be a decorated Army Ranger who had witnessed war crimes.

*Reggie Buddle, 60, Puyallup, Washington, sentenced July 30, 2007, for Unlawful Wearing of United States Military Medals and Decorations. Buddle posed as a decorated Marine Corps Chaplin presiding over weddings, funerals and baptisms. Buddle was sentenced to 500 hours of community service and two years of probation.

*Larry Lewis Porter, 52, Seattle, Washington, sentenced April 19, 2007, for Mail Fraud in connection with a scheme to fraudulently obtain disability benefits from Veterans Affairs. Porter was sentenced to 37 months in prison. Porter claimed he suffered PTSD from experiences in the Navy, however investigation revealed the events were fabricated. Loss Amount: $134,000

*Roy J. Scott, 71, of Port Angeles, Washington pleaded guilty August 31, 2007, to Use of an Altered Military Discharge Certificate to obtain VA Compensation and Medical Benefits, and Unlawful Wearing of United States Military Medals and Decorations. Scott claimed he had served in the Marine Corps in Korea, that he was wounded in combat in Korea, and that he had been awarded the Korea Defense Medal, Korea Star Medal, and a Purple Heart (due to alleged gun shot wounds sustained during combat in Korea). Scott claimed to be honorably discharged, when in fact, he never earned those medals, never served in Korea or any foreign country and was Court-Martialed out of the Marine Corps. Loss Amount: $21,960.

*Merrick K. Hersey, 64, of Vancouver, Washington, Hersey was indicted August 1, 2007, for Use and Possession of Forged or Altered Military Discharge Certificate and False Statements. Hersey is a fugitive and is being sought by law enforcement. Hersey applied for benefits claiming he served in 1967-68, was awarded two Purple Hearts (for wounds sustained in active combat) and the Bronze Star (awarded for heroism). Hersey claimed he suffered from PTSD and sought benefits. In fact, Hersey never served in the Marine Corps at all. Loss Amount: $2,688.

*Michael D. Heit, 58, of Harrington, Washington, pleaded guilty yesterday (September 20, 2007) in U.S. District Court in Spokane, Washington to Use and Possession of a Forged or Altered Military Discharge Certificate and False Claims of Military Medals. Heit claimed he was a Vietnam vet who was held as a prisoner of war. He claimed to have been awarded three Purple Heart medals and the Silver Star. None of that is true. Loss Amount: $3,500

*Elvin J. Swisher, 70, of Idaho, is charged with Wearing Unauthorized Military Medals, False Statements, and Theft of Government Funds. Swisher falsely claimed he was wounded in Korea and that he had been awarded the Silver Star, Purple Heart and other medals for valor. Loss Amount: $95,000.

*Carlos Riosvalle, 83, of Portland, Oregon, was sentenced April 9, 2007, in Multnomah County for multiple counts of Theft by Deception. Riosvalle collected benefits claiming to have been “shot down while a pilot in World War II.” In fact Riosvalle never served in the armed forces. Loss Amount: $22,818.

These cases were all investigated by the Veterans Affairs Office of Inspector General VA-OIG. The VA Office of the Inspector General operates a HOTLINE for the public to confidentially and safely report crimes like “Stolen Valor” involving VA or its programs. Call 800-488-8244, or fax to 202-565-7936, or e-mail to vaoighotline@va.gov, or write to VA OIG HOTLINE, PO Box 50410, Washington, DC 20091-0410.

Is military justice broken?

After several bad cases in Iraq, the system is showing signs that it works well.
By Gary Solis
September 10, 2007
American soldiers and Marines in Iraq are convicted of the homicides of noncombatants but sentenced to no confinement; no officer is held accountable for abuses at Abu Ghraib prison. These are just two disturbing military legal headlines.

Why are court-martial convictions seemingly hard to come by? The homicides of 24 Haditha civilians, including women and children, for example, resulted in court-martial charges against eight Marines, including four officers. Almost two years later, however, charges have been dropped against -- so far -- two of the four alleged shooters and one of the four officers.

I live in Georgia first off so if anyone knows Georgia law please help!

My brother and his bonehead girlfriend are having a baby. Its not born yet but my mom has a feeling that her and my dad are going to have to sue for custody.

Little back story, the girl he's with has "almost" been married. She had a ceremony but apparently (I say apparentley because we don't know for sure) he was already married so it didn't stick. She moved onto another guy, had a kid with him, something happened (trying to find out the truth is like pulling teeth with her) and she doesn't have custody. Neither does the father. She won't tell us whether his parents have custody or if she's in foster care. This girl has a pattern. Latch onto someone that either has money or has access to it (my parents have money that she thinks she's entitled to), get pregnant and then do something to weasel that money out and then move onto the next victim leaving the kid behind without a thought.

I love reading, though it does get quite redundant and boring, all of the Republican comments about all the Liberals do is complain and whine all of the time.

So you're saying that you have never complained about a President that you didn't agree with?

Excuse me while I back away from the computer to avoid the electric shock from the bolt of lightning that will come down and strike you.

For Example: I have a Restraining Order against my Ex. At the hearing he wanted to tell me something in front of the judge to me but the judge wouldn't let him. I got the vibe that he wanted to say he was sorry. I've know him for over 3 yrs, so I really do believe that this is the case. I know he can not contact me in anyway, but does that include ME not being able to atleast say good bye to him in say an email or letter.

He seems to win every online poll going, and as such has been dubbed the internets favourite candidate. He has also been the most succesful candidate in straw polls other than Thompson (Giuliani barely even registers). He recently raised over 1.2 million dollars in a week online, eclipsing the efforts of most other supposed 'second tier' candidates by a country mile. Can this humble and consistent congressman win the Gop nomination, or does his lack of media attention mean he wont get enough people to hear his message? His odds are at 4-1 now to be president- are these the odds of a second tier candidate?
