"This is the most successful domestic program in the history of the United States," Clinton said to applause from seniors gathered in Washington to push their policy agenda. "When I'm president, privatization is off the table because it's not the answer to anything."
She also said she does not support cutting benefits or increasing the retirement age. Seniors can begin collecting partial benefits at age 62, with full benefits available at age 67 for those born in 1960 or later.

The program's trustees issued a report in April that made clear the deficits Social Security faces:

Has the size of the Social Security problem changed over the last year?
* In net present value terms, Social Security owes $6.8 trillion dollars more in benefits than it will receive in taxes. That number includes $2.0 trillion, in net present value terms, to repay the bonds in Social Security's trust fund. This $300 billion increase is almost 4.5 percent higher than last year's $6.5 trillion number. The 2007 number consists of $2.0 trillion to repay the special issue bonds in the trust fund and $4.8 trillion to pay benefits after the trust fund is exhausted in 2041.

Net present value measures the amount of money that would have to be invested today in order to have enough money on hand to pay deficits in the future. In other words, Congress would have to invest $6.8 trillion today in order to have enough money to pay all of Social Security's promised benefits between 2017 and 2081. This money would be in addition to what Social Security receives during those years from its payroll taxes. ....

* Social Security spending will exceed projected tax collections in 2017. These deficits will quickly balloon to alarming proportions. After adjusting for inflation, annual deficits will reach $67.8 billion in 2020, $266.5 billion in 2030, and $330.9 billion in 2035.

Comcast cable installed a cable connection when I moved in 6 mohths ago. The cable is above ground. The owner of the house next door came by, and said that since the cable cord was running through her hedges, it had to be buried. I said fine, but she called the cable company right away and the rep said it would be buried by Friday. She used this information as a deadline, said if the cable is not buried by Friday she or her husband will cut the cable. My call to the cable rep said it would take at least 10 days. Cable can't be buried by Friday since area has to be examined for possible other buried utilities. She wrote out everything in a letter and signed it and gave it to me including the date she plans to cut the cable. If she does, is it illegal? If so, what is the crime or misdemeanor? If it is illegal, it it an act against the cable co. or me or both? What legal recourse do I have. The cable co. doesn't seem to care. If it's a crime against me, what action can I t

We are not a border state by the way. I'm talking 'bout Arkansas.

As a conservative, I don't allow TV commentators nor radio commentators to sway me one way or the other. I read an awful lot and depend more on the written media for information than anything else.

It's said that the Liberals have a stronghold when it comes to Internet sites and various blogs. Is that true?

What are your leanings and what influences your political beliefs? Written media? Commentators? Internet blogs and sites? Or, do you dig for information with the hopes that it's not slanted in one direction or the other and simply take it from there?

Conservatives need to conform to traditional standards of masculinity/feminity. Now GWB's emotional nature is out -- although if you knew to read between the lines, you could see it all along.

I understand Reagan's pressure on the USSR was one of many, many factors that helped bring them down. Do people (like PNAC Penelope) give Reagan all the credit? Or can they acknowlege the years of political pressure from Kennedy and the others?

Really the corruption and economy inside Russia made it crumble, not your cowboy B-movie hero Reagan. I do admire the man, but some people want him annointed to sainthood. Nuts.

It's like saying the Civil War was about slavery. It really wasn't but that's the short answer, not untrue, that's easy to remember.

I posted this before and now I'm keeping it up like an ongoing debate.
Doesn't anybody feel a little freaked that while we are busy with Iraq that other countries are going under the radar and even places like China are hurting us by pulling away goods and poisoned products? What about the nuclear testing that was "resolved" by Bush in Korea? We are completely blinded by the fog of war (so what wrong usage of the saying). I mean seriously this is starting to sound like we are all behind some giant Iron Curtain. Where is the news that focused more on safeguarding America than stating the obvious?

I'm told this:

It is a misdemeanor for an unlicensed contractor to work on a project where the value of the ENTIRE PROJECT exceeds $500. This law cannot be "waived" by the customer. (California Business & Professions Code sections 7028 & 7048)

But then another member responded with this:

Technically, you cannot be fined for something that is not a crime. Commando's answer emphasizes CA BPC §§ 7028 & 7048. However, those appear to only apply to acting contractors engaged in contracted work. I am the homeowner and you're my employee. A government attempting to apply its limits within the sovereignty of my own personal property will be a government that quickly finds itself relieved of power.

"7044. This chapter does not apply to any of the following:
(a) An owner of property, building or improving structures thereon, or appurtenances thereto, who does the work himself or herself or through his or her own employees with wages as their sole compensation.

Hi, I bought a used 2007 Siverado on July 20, 5 days after the muffler gave me problems it sounded like diesel truck. The dealer told me to get it welded, i did, it sounded fine, 1 week later same problem, 2 weeks later same problem, got it welded.
The drive shaft is dented causing vibrations this is the problem of why it is breaking

Question is do i have to pay to get it fixed?
What if the dealer don't want to fix it?
Can i return the truck it is on my moms credit

Truck was sold as is, but i heard there is a 30 day grace period.

Thanks!!

My guess is other countries hate America because we come running sooooooo fast to their countries whenever there is a big disaster. America takes all the peoples tax money to help other countries survive. Yes, I guess we deserve to be hated then. I vote lets not help ever again with billions of dollars then maybe people will like us again.
Also when Dictators kill and torture thier people who fight for freedom, we should just stand back and let it happen, right?
