shipping off to 'Nam. Short for Viet Nam. yes there was a war there.

Wow. I have not gone to your profile to see your age... so, I am just assuming you have been under a rock for a very long time. You are probably referring to "shipping off to nam" which is a reference to "shipping off" to war and "nam" referring to the Vietnam conflict that lasted for some odd 12 years (give or take, doing this from memory here). I think you mean "shipping off to Nam" and it refers to the Viet Nam war.

bwahaha shopping off to nom.........let me tell that to my dad!

it's actually SHIPPING OFF TO 'NAM and refers to the fact that many young men were drafted for war. to get to vietnam you had to hitch a ride on a ship (my dad was in the navy) or ride in a plane. The soldiers refered at times that they felt as cargo being "shipped" from place to place. Hense it became "SHIPPING OFF TO 'NAM"
