In UK Patents Office but I suggest that you need a patents agent so that you avoid the pitfalls

Try: www.patent.gov.uk/patent

first of all you can go to a solicitor specialising in copyright and intellectual property and register your idea there. This kind of "freezes" the date you invented it, then if someone you know tries to steal your idea at a later date, you have proof that it is your idea.
He will also be able to advise you about registering patents too. TELL NO ONE what your invention is though, or most lawyers will not touch your case. You will probably have to sign an affidavit to this effect.

Above all, leave a certain company in S. Ireland alone, they are a scam.

Are you aware that a patent will cost upwards of £20,000 to register?

You need a patent. You will also need a patent attorney to file the papers. It is not cheap since they need to go through all existing patents to make sure yours is original. Good luck.
