So what do you think about this statement from Obama?

"There are some very capable Republicans who I have a great deal of respect for," Obama said in an interview with The Associated Press. "The opportunities are there to create a more effective relationship between parties."

Among the Republicans he would seek help from are Sens. Richard Lugar of Indiana, John Warner of Virginia and Tom Coburn of Oklahoma, Obama said.

are we then encouraging politicians to set the bar as LOW as possible when it comes to personal conduct?

No, we don't want hypocrites around, running things and telling people what to do.

But humans have failings. And some ideas are worth fighting for, even though their proponents are imperfect. Bill Clinton, for example, had a history of sexually harassing women, but does that make the feminist ideals he espoused not worth fighting for?

I'm confused here. What do we want from our elected leaders? (Not breaking laws would be a start!)

Mental illnesses are covered by the Americans with Disabilities Act. But that is with employers and employees. I was wondering do people that suffer from mental illness have any legal rights regarding to education? I mean in the high school and college sense. Because students with these illnesses often have bad attendance records which leads to disciplinary actions and sometimes legal, truancy, trouble.

I asked this once before, and got a few good answers. But I just couldn't bring myself to call her, and wound up procrastinating until I accidently let the question expire. I'd like to give the people who gave me such good advice another chance at the points - this time I promise I'll pick a best answer whether I get up the guts to call or not. Here are some details for everyone else:
I bought a cellphone recently from a place that buys, sells, and repairs cellphones. and after I took it home, I realized that it still had some videos in it. I watched them, and one of the videos shows the owner of the phone being proposed to. Her Mom's phone number is still programmed into the phone. I feel torn - should I try to send her the video? It's possible the phone was stolen, and sold to the store I bought it from (that didn't occur to me until my husband brought it up). I feel weird calling someone's Mom out of the blue -- but I would want this video clip if it was mine....

What is about to happen?

All of Bush's buddies are getting out of Washington as fast as they can.

Now they deployed troops from Florida to guard Washington

They have warned us about a "Summer Attack"

They are acting like they know something. So why aren't they telling America what to prepare for. They are preparing for something.

I would like to know what it is. They have only sent troops like this to Washington once in 50 years, that one time was on 9/11!

So what do they know - or what are they planning

I had been using all of my vacation and personal days to get my home rebuilt, we lost three rooms and had smoke and water damage in the rest of the home. After using all paid time due to me I had to take a leave of absence, we started of with a month, but the contractors had not even begun to finish the job, so had to extend leave, my employer said to take the time and we would fill out the form for leave upon my return, as I did not know an exact date the work would be done. Unknown to me they had started giving me points after the first leave, I got a letter in the mail that I had been terminated for violation of the attendance policy. I had been calling in everyday to let them know what was going on, and had no clue I was getting points, now they say I voluntarily quit! I have been with them for over 14 years. To complicate matters a bit, my husband is a manager with same company. Why did they not say something about giving me points, when I had the understanding I was on leave! HELP

When a conservative is found to be a hypocrite, deviant and criminal, other conservatives decry them as such.

When a lib is snared in a similar manner, other libs stand up and celebrate the behavior.

Do not assume I think the answer is yes.

As far as I know, NO major candidate on either the Republican or Democratic side supports same-sex marriage.

So if they are gay (or lesbian) themselves, would you support "outing" them to expose hypocrisy? Or is it nobody's business?

Thanks!

PS I am straight. Don't hate me - I was born this way! :)

We have had no phone for 6 days now and the phone company tells us to CALL their repair service to fix, how do you call when you have no phone, hummmm?
So If I am choking and need to call 911, what do i do, I have to call 611 first but cant call anyone period as I have no phone, now if my husband was the one choking me he would be in trouble if he caused us to have no phone but since its the phone company that casued this and will not repair it in a timely manner, why is it not illegal?
plus they have us jumping threw hoops to fix and we PAY for the darn phone line wiring coverage.
they came out yesterday but that was to fix a neighbors phone that went out the day before, and not ours (6 days, 6 DAYS! NO 7 DAYS!!)
Does this make sence?
It would if you lived under my roof, trust me!
Because everything and nothing makes sence when you dine on lead paint chips everyday.
thanks!

The number of poor people continues to rise at about the same rate as growth of our total population.

But that's not because people are moving down - it's because people are moving UP - - but being replaced more than 1 for 1 with NEW poor people from other countries, who have come here either legally or illegally.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6214022/site/newsweek/

This may be an indictment of our immigration policy - or lack thereof - but it is NOT an indictment of our economic policy.

These people didn't start out in the US and BECOME poor here - they were poor somewhere else - typically a country where there is LESS of a free market in place - and CAME here.

And by and large even THEY move up over time.

Do we need more gun control, less or none at all? Keep in mind that the population of the US consists of people who live in cities as well as out in the country (rabid animals and predators do still attack people, pets and livestock). Or, instead of more gun control should we punish criminals who use guns more severely as a deterrant. I'd like to hear both sides of the issue because it is such a controversial one.

And allowing corporate puppets to run our government?

The people of the world are counting on the people of the United States to do better!!

We have a kind of power that they dream of having!!

Why are we abandoning our opportunity to hold our government to accountability??

Throughout history the people like you and I have long waited for the opportunities that WE HAVE IN THIS COUNTRY to affect change in our leaders!!!!

Why are you willing to sit back and wash your hands of your rights???
