A lot of times when liberals and Dems try and refute the good economic news, they say unemployment statistics are based on those who are currently collecting benefits, and ignore those who have already exhausted their benefits.

Nothing could be further from the truth. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the unemployment data the government prepares every month, including the unemployment rate, is based on household surveys of 60,000 households.

Here's the link to the appropriate page http://www.bls.gov/cps/cps_htgm.htm Read it for yourself, it's only about 1 page long.

I do live next to one and she seems to think it is ok to have one of her "girlfriends" over, go outside in the backyard and make out in front of everyone. This is a residential neighborhood with a lot of little kids around. I have caught them at night going down on each other outside but thankfully the kids couldn't see this. And no, I don't have a problem with what or who they are, just the actions. Let me know what you think.

The common refrain from most Dems and Bush-haters is that our 4 year recovery is creating mostly low wage retail and burger flipping jobs. Actually this is the standard propaganda from the Dems anytime a Republican is President.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

This analysis of job changes and average wages from July 06 to July 07 clearly shows that about 1.3 million new high wage jobs were created, and about 350,000 high wage mfg and construction jobs lost. That's a net of 950,000 new high wage jobs. There was also another 650,000 or so new medium and lower wage jobs.

Please check out this link http://www.optimist123.com/optimist/2007/08/where-the-jobs-.html especially the second graph. That graph references Table B-3 from the Bureau of Labor Statistics on wages. That table can be found here http://www.bls.gov/news.release/empsit.t16.htm

I live in San Diego, CA and I sell cell phones. Sometimes I come across tweakers and I have been threatened before. What can I use to protect myself and to what extent. Can I keep a bat under the table, a big can of mace or what? I want to make sure I can neutralize the situation before the cops come. And this a**hole is not going to get away from me if he attempts to assault me.

Personally, it would seem to me to be appropriate that we give "the rich" a hearty "Hip, hip, hooray!" & a "Thank you very much, sirs & madams, for paying WAY more than your fair share so that I don't have to!" For you fairness police, that is what I would call fair treatment of "the rich" - instead of the lack of gratitude you evince towards your betters (i.e., those paying your taxes for you).

Oh, & for those of you too lazy to look at the data let me hep ya out: the bottom 50% of tax returns paid 3.3% of Federal income taxes. Whattaya fairness police have to say about that one?!?

Lastly, if anyone goes anywhere near "That's a lie!", "This can't possibly be true!", "You don't really believe that, do you?", or any other nonsense that shows that you not only are not open to the truth, you're too lazy to go to the link & get it, YOU WILL BE REPORTED!

That last comment always draws an idiot or two; they'll be reported, too.

I am not real sure of how the military (any branch) conducts their recruiting and/or sign-ups for high school students, other than when they get your child's phone number they don't know the word no, but... one specific scenario has occured with my middle son's classmate, so explain this: She, at 16 1/2 signed up with a military branch when the recruiter came to school. She apparently gets a larger sign up bonus the further away from 18 she is. So, she is a totally flighty little gal and what if she now doesn't do whatever they want her to at 18, or doesn't show up where ever they have her scheduled to after high school graduation? I guess I am mainly asking how does a minor (16 years old) sign what seems to be a binding contract, when I thought you had to be 18 to sign any type of binding contract? Does the military fall under some kind of exemption? I also am not real sure kids should be allowed to sign up. If you are actually 18, that's another story.

At the end of his second year, (remember the Reagan recession?) Reagan's approval rating was 41 percent; after the Iran-Contra scandal was revealed, Reagan's approval rating stood at 46 percent. His approval rating for his entire presidency was lower than Kennedy's, Eisenhower's and even Johnson's, and at times he was one of the most unpopular presidents in recent history.

In 1982, the Congressional Budget Office found that taxpayers earning under $10,000 lost an average of $240 from Reagan's 1981 tax cuts, while those earning more than $80,000 gained an average of $15,130. By that fall, the jobless rate hit 10.1 percent-the worst in 42 years, and a year later 11.9 million were out of work. In 1983, the country's poverty rate rose to 15 percent, the highest level since the mid-'60s.

One of his most famous assertions was, "Trees cause more pollution than automobiles do." In 1985, Reagan praised the P.W. Botha's apartheid regime of South Africa for eliminating segregation.

My fiancee's great grandmother offered to pay his car off. The only thing that she said before she paid the car off was that he would have to pay her back. We said ok! She paid the car off, and after, she said how much (300) a month, until she got her 10k back. Well. We have been having financial problems but yet she won't let us make it up next month or just pay a little less. Now she is threatening court. Could she actually win? There was nothing written on paper. Just a verbal agreement before she paid the car off that we would pay her back.
