After jail, of course.

superchee - I would never cut short a sentence to deport them, but I would never let them out on bail or fail to deport them at the end of a sentence, either.

bruce, no I don't agree. That is law for LEGAL immigrants, not for illegal immigrants.

Yes, deport the illegal alien criminals after they have served their sentences! Who are these idiots that are against deporting illegal alien criminals?

I just heard on the Lou Dobbs show tonight that the governor of New Jersey doesn't want the cities' police forces to get trained in immigration enforcement under the 287g program, because the illegals will not cooperate with the police if they are afraid of being deported. What a hypocritical, lying ***! They should be afraid of the police, as they are here illegally.

I call governor Corzine and any other pol who uses that poor excuse for his sanctuary policies a hypocrite because I believe the real reason for the sanctuary policies are to get the votes of La Raza and the campaign contributions from the big businesses that want the cheap labor from illegal aliens. Of course, there may be some bribery involved, especially in New Jersey!

Well of course they should be deported after their jail term. But often many are caught PRIOR to committing violent crimes and are given court dates that they never show up for. Had they simply been deported they might not have had a CHANCE to commit those crimes against American citizens.

"Though Carranza had recently been indicted for the serial sexual assault of a 5-year-old -- and previously indicted for a barroom brawl -- he was free on bail."

EXCUSE ME?? sexual assault on a 5-yr old and was out on bail?

"For decades, the feds have been cavalier about criminals here illegally. A Government Accountability Office study in 2005 found that illegal immigrants jailed in this country, on average, are arrested eight times before being deported. Los Angeles County authorities say that more than 20 percent of the offenders who pass through their crowded jails are undocumented. In Roswell, Ga., police chief Edwin Williams has sent ICE inquiries about suspected illegal immigrants in his jail for a decade. He has faxed in more than 10,000 names. Federal agents have picked up a handful."

specific, deport the unlawful alien criminals as in the present day as they have served their sentences! who're those idiots that are against deporting unlawful alien criminals? I only heard on the Lou Dobbs prepare this evening that the governor of modern-day Jersey would not choose for the cities' police forces to get knowledgeable in immigration enforcement below the 287g utility, with the aid of fact the illegals won't cooperate with the police in the event that they're afraid of being deported. What a hypocritical, mendacity ***! they could prefer to be afraid of the police, as they're perfect right here illegally. I call governor Corzine and diverse pol who makes use of that detrimental excuse for his sanctuary rules a hypocrite with the aid of fact i think of the actual clarification for the sanctuary rules are to get the votes of la Raza and the marketing campaign contributions from the huge agencies that choose for the cheap hard work from unlawful aliens. of direction, there could desire to be some bribery in touch, extraordinarily in New Jersey!

Can we agree that an immigration judge should decide?

The law says that anyone convicted of one felony or two misdemeanors involving moral turpitude, should be put into removal proceedings.

They have the right to apply for a stay of removal if they can show their deportation would be an extreme hardship on a US citizen, but most who appear before an immigration judge after conviction of a violent crime, are deported (either voluntarily, or after their appeals are exhausted).

The USCIS Office of Detention and Removal Operations is making progress in getting prisons and courts to comply, but without a workable solution to the broader issues, it will probably never be perfect.

Illegals shouldn't even be allowed to live here anyway. They're ILLEGAL. We do need to find a better way to punish them besides deportation though, or as someone else said, paid vacation. We need to keep them OUT OF THIS COUNTRY so they don't have time to commit crimes.

Frankly I wish harsher sentence, for illegal immigrants who are repeat offenders. Frankly after they are deported , and they show up here again, there should be a harsher punishment. Frankly I can't see a reasonable excuse for them to be here again. I am sceptical of trying people for the Death penalty, since there is doubt in committing a crime. There should be no doubt, if they were deported and they show up here again.

Edit: I'm only discussing those who commit serious crimes of course.

Not in all circumstances. A murderer should be locked up for life, regardless of his legal status. At which point would you deport them, after 5 or ten years? What is to prevent them from returning after deportation? Lock them up for life right here. I would rather my tax dollars go to another death row inmate that ever have to worry about that person being on our streets again. For lesser crimes of course deport them, but again where is the assurance they will not return?

Deportation is such a joke. It should be called paid travel.
Most people that get deported just take a little vacation in their home country, and then come right back.

There has to be a better way, but not with our tax dollars.

I think 'being' illegal and committing violent crimes are two different things. There are punishments for both. Both should be aplied where aproriate. Illegals should be deported. Violent criminals should be shot - uh, I mean, jailed. Violent criminals who are illegals should be jailed - preferably with a skinhead cell mate named Bubba - then deported.
