The specific answer to your question depends on your jurisdiction. However, generally speaking, a valid, enforceable contract must have a few key elements:

1. Offer -- what is the person offering to do?
2. Acceptance -- did the other person accept the offer?
3. Consideration -- what value was exchanged?
4. "Meeting of the minds" -- did both sides have the same thing in mind? If you were thinking one thing and he is thinking another, then there is no contract.
5. Exchange of promises -- every contract involves an exchange of promises ("in exchange for your promsie to mow my lawn, I promise to pay you $20")

If these elements are present, your contract generally will be valid. There is no requirement that all contracts be in writing, or signed, or in ink, or only in black pen (all incorrect statements of the law that I have heard in the past few months!). However, having it signed and in writing, and with witnesses if you want, can help prove the terms of the contract if there is a dispute.

A contract is an agreement where two (or more) parties each agree to do something for or give something to the other.

The agreement itself is anything that is clearly defined in terms of what each person promises.

The simplest way to write it out is to write a sentence saying that the two parties are agreeing to do the following, and then list what each person is promising to do. Be as specific as possible.

If you need to make an agreement contract with someone, type in I ? hereby agree to ? and at the end, type in that person's name and date and have them sign it. If you want, you can have an attorney proof read it in a free consultation. I wish I knew what the agreement was on. Then I could help you better.
