I love the USA. My family has fought, died and been crippled for this country and I don't want to live anywhere else. But I vote, I pay taxes and according to my Constitution I can question and comment on anything I care to. It seems to me that with things like the Patriot Act among other things that we are slowly losing our freedoms.

Maybe it is the people I am around, but I find that most people are not the religious zealots to which most politicians pander. Nor do most people care if their elected officials believe in god. Similarly, I know no one who is shocked by bad language. Who are these religious pseudo-pious people and where do they live? I grew up in the midwest and south, where the media would tell you they dominate, and in my experience they are the minority. Why is this non-existent group of people running our country?

It starts with loudmouths like Bill O'Rielly demanding a crack down on sexual predators and strict ironclad zero tolerance laws, and somewhere down the line we end up with this:

I was given a speeding ticket in Middleburg Heights Ohio, plead not guilty, and the case was transferred to the Berea Municipal Court. The officer did not show for the trial today. The prosecutor indicated it was due to a broken foot and rescheduled the trial for next week. I told him I did not agree to this or waive my right to a speedy trial and requested to enter my plea not guilty. He stated I already plead not guilty at the arraignment and the only pleas he would accept were guilty, no contest; otherwise it would be rescheduled. Asked if we could work out a deal he said no.

I feel like my rights have been violated here. Can they just reschedule a trial like this? If not, would it be a violation of federal, state, or city code?

Especially if the abandoned child was left on your doorstop and is under the age of one.

I am writing a fan-fiction in which the main characters come together (fall in love) whilst taking care of abandoned children.
