Especially if the abandoned child was left on your doorstop and is under the age of one.

I am writing a fan-fiction in which the main characters come together (fall in love) whilst taking care of abandoned children.

the questions i would ask would be as follows. (1) did you see anything? (2)did you hear anything? (3)when would be a good time for social services to come and collect the child? (4)do u know of anyone in the neighborhood who is or was pregnant? (5)why would the parents choose to leave the child on your step?

The basic questions are always:

1. Who
2. What
3. When
4. Where
5. How
6. Why

Each individual response can solicit another serious of 1-6.

The police should then contact Youth/Juvenile Affairs where the child would be taken care of until further investigative results.

You would need to get all biographical information, age, name, address, etc. Then if you know who's child it is, where it came from, if anything was heard/seen/smelled, etc. The child would not be left with the family, but taken to social services.
